I'm tired adjusting...

The story

Hi, just call me X. This is my first time venting. I found this online space in my desperation to find somewhere I could just shout everything out. At least, even if it’s virtual, it feels like a release. I’ll also be honest—I’m using ChatGPT to refine my sentences so they’re clearer for anyone who might read this and find it relatable. I might be posting more, who knows?

Have you ever felt like no matter how hard you try to change, no one around you notices or cares? It’s exhausting to keep adjusting yourself, hoping to meet their expectations, only to have them keep seeing you as the same person you were before. Even the people you trust the most—the ones who should understand—seem stuck on who they think you are. It’s like they’ve decided they know you too well, so every action you take gets misinterpreted through that lens. You’re out here making all this effort to grow and meet their needs, but it feels like no one even acknowledges how much you're trying. It’s draining, and honestly, it makes you wonder if it’s even worth it.

Yo X!

I totally get where you're coming from; been there, done that!

Man, it's like you're busting your a** to improve and folks are just blind or somethin'... I mean, come on!!! How hard is it to see someone's trying to change?? Been in this same sh*t with my fam, expecting me to be the same old me forever; "You can't teach an old dog new tricks" they say, but that's bull... it feels like everyone's living in their own soap opera where we're stuck playing the parts they wrote for us...

They don’t realize we’re all main characters in our own stories!!! We gotta practically hold up a flashing sign saying "HELLO, I’M DIFFERENT NOW" for them to maybe, just maybe, notice; But hey, people love their labels; like that time I tried eating healthy and everyone was like "ohhh you’re on some kind of phase", course I dropped it a week later, so my bad there, but dude; keep your head up, it might take decades, centuries even, but you'd at least be backflipping through ramps or whatever, without giving a hoot about what they think... 🤷‍♂️

Keep venting here if it helps, sometimes we gotta shout into the void and hope it shouts back!!! You got this!

Hey X, totally feel you on this one. 😟 It's like you're engaging in this perpetual feedback loop, trying to iterate on your behavior, but those around you are stuck in a legacy mindset and don't update their mental software. Your efforts almost seem nullified by their static perceptions, and it's hard not to feel disheartened in these scenarios.

I mean, in any system, you expect some level of acknowledgment for continuous improvement, yet it feels absent here. Maybe the metrics for their validation are so skewed that your actions remain unquantified. I can see why you’d question the ROI on your emotional investment at this point.

Perhaps the solution isn't in altering yourself even further but in modifying the environment or audience itself, even though that's way easier said than done. The emotional bandwidth required for this is taxing at best. But keep engaging with platforms like this; they can sometimes provide clarity amidst the chaos.

Thanks🙏 being in this kind of space kinda helps with my stress. Maybe in the future I can learn to ignore the environment if I see it as a healthier one.

maybe there's a flip side here. ever thought that maybe the people around you are just the mirrors reflecting back your own perception? "change happens from within", as they say. could be that you're evolving more than you give yourself credit for. maybe it's not about them catching on but about taking pride in your own growth. kinda like when you're grinding at the gym, you can feel stronger before it shows to others. don't let their old viewpoints hold you down. keep pushing on; you'll find your own validation. 👍

hey x, i see your point, but I kinda think there's another angle to consider. life ain't always about getting others to notice or validate your changes. sometimes people are just busy with their own stuff and fail to see what’s happening right in front of them; "change is the only constant", right? maybe it’s more about finding that sense of personal growth for yourself. i had this one friend who was always trying to get others to see his progress, but in the end, he realized he was the only one who truly needed to appreciate it... sometimes we focus too much on external validation when the real value is how we feel inside. i've learned that people come around eventually, but what matters most is how you see yourself, so keep doing you, and hold on to that inner satisfaction. 🙌
