What is a momma's boy?

The story

so here I am, stuck in the endless loop of wondering how much is too much when it comes to being a momma's boy. my boyfriend's devotion to his mom is starting to feel like it's crossing some boundaries. he calls her, like, three times a day just to chat about mundane stuff. it's sweet that he's close to her, but it can be overwhelming when we're trying to spend quality time together and she's always there... virtually anyway.

it's not just me feeling this way either, but it seems everyone else around us says I'm overreacting. am I missing something? maybe this is just normal behavior I've never experienced before? 🤷‍♀️ there's one thing that stands out though: whenever there's an issue or decision, his first instinct is to ask for his mom's opinion rather than discussing it with me first. that's where I start doubting things. shouldn't we be making decisions together as a couple?

there was this one time when we were planning our first vacation together (I was so excited!), and he ended up canceling our plans because his mom suggested we go somewhere she liked better instead. why does her opinion override ours? sure, compromise is key in any relationship but should it involve someone outside the relationship all the time?

sometimes I wonder if I'm being unreasonable or if cultural differences play a role here. like maybe some families are naturally more interconnected than others? can't help but think about how long-term commitment will look with this dynamic in play 😅
