The story

so, something really messed up happened to me recently. I came home from work one day and found this bright sticky note on the kitchen counter. My partner had written it. At first, I thought it was just some silly reminder or joke, but then I actually read it. It was a list of 'relationship rules' that I had no idea about. Like, what?

The rules were pretty wild. Things like "must approve all social plans" and "phone must be unlocked at all times." I seriously thought it was a joke at first, like one of those funny lists we sometimes laugh about. But nope, this seemed way too serious. It felt like a control thing disguised as some kind of mutual agreement.

It honestly felt like I was at work getting micromanaged. I get that maybe some people need strict rules for work, but in a relationship? Shouldn't it be about trust and respect? It’s just not right to throw down these unilateral rules like that. I started thinking about what could be driving this. Maybe there’s something going on that I don’t even know about yet.

Now I’m stuck trying to figure out what to do next. Should I just bring it up and point out how bizarre this is? Or should I try to approach it in a less confrontational way? I feel like I need to find the right words, cause I don’t want this to blow up. But at the same time, I can’t just ignore it. I keep going back and forth in my head about how to address it without making things worse. It’s frustrating and awkward. I just want to have a solid conversation and get to the bottom of this without it turning into a huge fight. Ugh.
