Get out of your own way
The story
interacting with the world both excites and terrifies me. this paradox shows up way too often, ya know? like, I've got this big presentation coming up at work (it's a killer opportunity!!!) yet I can't get out of my own damn way! I find myself doing everything but prepping for it. cleaning my room suddenly becomes priority number one, you follow me? totally classic case of self-sabotage, right? it's an old curse handed down through generations or something. every time I'm gearing up to do something monumental, I'm tangled in my own web of doubts and procrastination. we're talking years' worth of undermining my skills and potential!
one would think that years of reassurance from family, friends (and heck) even random folks online would've straightened this all out by now. I mean, “you've got this” is cool and all until the voice in your head screams louder saying “do you really?” remember when jenna from finance whipped out that phrase before her talk last month and nailed it? meanwhile over here, I’m wading through thick mud labeled insecurity while holding hands with patriarchal ‘shoulds’. it’s wild how past experiences echo louder than present affirmations. maybe next time I'll scribble some positive nonsense over my notes? who knows! yet why is energy for self-repelling stronger than leveling up? tough calls as always... if anyone’s figured out kryptonite to this vexing cycle ping me!

The “you got this” or any other reassurance doesnt work for me either.
But what i have noticed in everything i have done is that once you start..thats it..its on..all anxiety or procrastination goes away.
Bc im like you too.
As soon as i start, all the anxiety and overthinking or laziness goes away.
Even if you do bad in smth, its not like you gonna die or smth. F it
it's wild how starting can shift everything, right? that initial step is always the hardest! guess I'll just have to dive in headfirst and see where it takes me... thanks for the reminder that even if things don't go perfectly, it's not the end of the world!
hang in there!
haha, thanks! I mean, that's basically my motto now. "hanging in there" while life insists on swinging the rope wildly... classic.
Yeah, that whole self-sabotage thing is like having a built-in excuse generator, right? 🙄 It's like our brains are wired to keep us busy with useless stuff the moment something important comes up. I mean, cleaning instead of prepping for a presentation... classic move! But let's be real here, it's not just some mystical curse passed down from the ancestors. It's more about how we let fear run the show sometimes and convince ourselves of imaginary limits. Maybe instead of adopting Jenna's "you've got this" mantra, try turning those doubts into questions you can actually answer. That way you're at least engaging with your own brain rather than letting it derail you every time opportunity knocks.
it's fascinating how the mind works when it comes to high-pressure environments, isn't it? you mention self-sabotage and that resonates with so many people facing similar situations. have you ever considered breaking down the big tasks into smaller, manageable parts to see if that eases the procrastination a bit? sometimes tackling one small thing gives the momentum needed to tackle more! also, i'm curious about how you've handled these situations in the past: was there ever a time when you overcame this cycle that could provide some insights now?
totally get where you're coming from with the whole breaking tasks down thing—it’s just hard to even start sometimes, you know? it's like every small part suddenly feels just as daunting. honestly can’t remember a moment of overcoming it completely (wish I did!). weird how the mind plays tricks on you!
man, it's rough how those doubts cling like velcro and "shoulds" weigh you down but maybe try reframing that inner voice with a bit of humor or sarcasm to take the edge off, like channeling your inner jenna from finance...fake it 'til you become it!
Totally! Maybe inner Jenna's got the right idea. I mean, if sarcasm can drown out that nagging voice telling me "seriously?" then bring it on! Plus, humor is always worth a shot... even if it's just to laugh through the chaos.
procrastination really loves to cling on when you least need it, huh?
Honestly, you're giving that "self-sabotage" way too much power. Sounds like a classic case of overthinking! Imagining obstacles that aren't even there yet. Seriously, why let your past failures dictate your future success? I get the whole cleaning instead of prepping bit...it's just a sneaky way to dodge responsibility under the guise of productivity. Trust me, been there. Why does Jenna's voice in your head seem louder than yours when you're the one running this show? Ever tried actually listing out those insecurities and tackling them like you would any other project? Just a thought...
Listing out insecurities sounds both daunting and empowering. Do others really make a list and tackle them like a project? I've tried it, but then there's always that doubt about it working at all (more of that lovely overthinking)! Maybe cleaning is my secret enemy army that's blocking the way to the actual task... or maybe it's just way more fun to do when I'm avoiding things.
Procrastination is like a sneaky little bug that digs into your brain when you're not looking, isn't it??? It's impressive how ingrained it can get in our routines. Taking on something new or monumental feels like trying to climb a mountain with doubts acting as extra weight in your backpack; one glance at someone else's success and suddenly every insecurity you've got rears its ugly head. Breaking free of this cycle is no walk in the park, but maybe acknowledging those feelings more often (even if they are pesky) can start chipping away at them? After all, everyone has their kryptonite; finding yours might be the first step to unraveling this tangled web.
i feel ya but sometimes stepping back helps.
maybe taking a step back could help, definitely worth a shot!
Dude, I totally feel you on the procrastination thing. It's like you're stuck in this weird loop of wanting to get things done and not doing them at all. Ever thought about hitting reset on those past echoes by trying something new just for kicks? Maybe change up your prep game? Like instead of scribbling positive nonsense, why not try something tangible that diffuses your nervous energy, like a walk or a quick workout? Curious if switching gears physically helps quiet those doubts any faster... worth a shot maybe?!
dude, it's like you're describing my life story too.
Right? It's crazy how universal this struggle is. Like we're all just in this perpetual loop of second-guessing everything. Maybe it's a club we didn't want to join but here we are, lol. You're not alone in this mud-wading adventure!
kinda same happens btter prep tho
