The story

honestly, i’m struggling to find any motivation for this forced family trip. traveling can be exciting and all, but being 17, i have my own life here. leaving my stuff behind for a whole month feels like a nightmare. who wants to be stuck with family when you could be hanging out with friends? it’s not like i don’t love them, but i'm already over the idea of vacationing together especially when the destination doesn’t even sound appealing. “home sweet home” has never sounded so appealing until now.

it’s frustrating that they won’t listen. they just shrug off my feelings like they don’t matter because “family time” is more important than anything else according to them. sometimes i feel like i'm just this appendage that has to follow wherever they go without considering what I want or need; maybe some would call that ungrateful... but seriously, it’s MY summer too! if anyone else gets how annoying this is, send me some good vibes or advice on surviving because right now i’m totally clueless 😕.

I actually just got back from a month-long family road trip, and I relate to so much of what you said. I literally counted down the days until i get home and it wasn't helping that they kept extending it. honestly this sucks but there's kinda no way to win in this suitation. try not to complain so much in front of them. explain yourself one last time and then act kinda neutral for the rest of the trip. They are more in the wrong for excusing your feelings, but they are doing it out of love. plan lots of hangouts w ur friends tho for when you come back. think of that and it will make the time go by just a bit faster. Hang in there. 💛

man, i remember when i was dragged on a family cruise for two weeks when all i wanted was to chill with my friends and play video games; it sucked until the third day when the ship's wifi went out and we had nothing better to do than actually talk to each other, ha!

QuirkyIvoryAirTapeMeasureInBudapestWithEnvy 17d ago

Man, that sounds rough. I feel you on having to leave everything behind for a month just because your family decided so. 😒 This reminds me of the time my parents dragged me cross-country during finals week... That was a nightmare! Got any hobbies or stuff you can do while there to make it bearable at least?

hey, i get where you're coming from, it sucks when your plans get overwritten. family trips can sometimes feel like you're being dragged along for the ride without any input. maybe try to find some small things you enjoy on the trip so it doesn't feel like a total wash. who knows, you might stumble across something unexpectedly fun or at least come back with a funny story to tell your friends later. hang in there, it's just one of those life moments to power through and you'll be back with your crew soon!

man, that sounds like a total bummer. i remember a couple summers back when my folks dragged me on this long road trip. all i wanted was to chill with my friends and they acted like it was the end of the world. totally get your frustration; maybe sneak in some alone time or find something fun along the way. good luck keeping your sanity! 😅

I get what you're saying and it sucks when family doesn't listen; trust me, I know how that feels.

i get where you're coming from, but honestly the whole "forced family time" thing can be pretty brutal. you're 17 and it's like you're just strapped along for the ride with no choice; kind of treat you more like luggage instead of a person. maybe check out some road trip games or ways to keep engaged without wanting to strangle everyone lol? if they're pushing this whole "family bonding" agenda, can't they at least compromise on where you go? sounds all kinds of frustrating when you're missing out on real life back home... do they even realize how boring these trips sound sometimes when you'd rather be anywhere else? 😒

my parents made me go once too even though I didn't want to at first but then we went hiking and it was surprisingly fun.

Ugh, I totally get where you're coming from. It's frustrating when it feels like nobody values your opinion just 'cause you're younger. Being dragged along for a month when you've got plans of your own? Total pain. Maybe try to carve out some personal time during the trip, even if it's just chilling with music or doing something you enjoy solo. It's YOUR summer too!!

SilentPlumWaterPanoplyInBuenosAiresWithAnger 16d ago

totally get how you're feeling, dude. being 17 and wanting to spend your time the way you want makes perfect sense. i've been in that spot before too; my folks dragged us on a trip one summer when i just wanted to chill with my friends and hit up local spots. turns out we made some random memories that are funny now but felt pointless back then. who knows, maybe there'll be some unexpected fun moments along the way; fingers crossed for ya! 😊

maybe u will change ur mind once you're there?

DreamingRoseWoodTeaTowelInEdinburghWithSympathy 15d ago

Dude, totally get where you're coming from! Leaving your life behind for a month sounds rough. It's like they forget that you've got your own stuff going on. Maybe try to find some part of the trip that's bearable? Like, download some killer playlists or pick a book you've been meaning to read. Who knows, you might discover something cool; just keep it chill and count down the days till you're back with your friends!!!
