Adhd dissociation
The story
adhd is a real pain in the ass!!! i just keep spacing out, like all the time. someone talks to me and BAM, i'm in my own world. they call my name over and over before i snap back. it's ridiculous!! 🤦♂️ but then again, try explaining that to people who don't get it. like yeah, sorry i missed half of what you said but i'm sitting here feeling guilty as hell! every damn time!!! do any of y'all experience this??
it's not just my personal convos either. important meetings? forget about it! there I am staring blankly at a screen while everyone else is having these deep discussions and i'm out here missing critical details like an idiot! sometimes i think maybe i'm just lazy or something... but nah, adhd is tricky beast, ain't it? no wonder people think we're always making excuses!!! 😅 does anyone have any tips cause mannnn, this is getting embarrassing real fast.
and don't even get me started on the guilt trip. it's like ok brain you spaced out again, big surprise!!! 🙄 when I do manage to focus (which isn't often lol), I try so hard but something stupid always pulls me away. i'm talking about really important things too!!! can't keep going through life expecting folks to repeat themselves a hundred times.
so yeah, pretty much totally ruined my day today cause it happened during a super key meeting at work. boss was calling my name multiple times before i finally tuned back in... anyway still trying to shake off the embarrassment from that one.
anyone got any solutions for this nonsense???? need some help over here fam!

hey u know its not just u right,, others feel the same way too!! maybe ur being hard on yrself idk
that's true but easier said than done...
thanks for saying that. i do wonder if i'm too hard on myself sometimes. adhd is a real struggle! just wish it didn't feel so isolating at times.
yup same problem
'preciate that! good knowing I'm not alone in this mess.
sometimes i wonder if it's partly our environment affecting us too
Hey, I hear you! It's definitely rough dealing with ADHD in situations where focus is critical. But I've got to say, sometimes it feels like people use ADHD as a scapegoat for not paying attention; it's got its challenges but blaming everything on it isn't gonna help either, right? One thing that kinda worked for me was using fidget toys or even just doodling during meetings - keeps the hands busy and somehow helps my brain stay on track! I've also tried setting reminders on my phone to keep myself grounded during important discussions. And man, don't beat yourself up too much about it - we all zone out from time to time. Maybe chat with your boss about how they can help support you in those moments? See if there are any accommodations they might offer that could make meetings easier for you. The guilt's a tough one, but letting people know you're working on it can go a long way.
Thanks for hearing me out! I know it can sound like I'm making excuses... maybe sometimes I am without even realizing it. I'll give fidget toys a try for sure, and setting reminders could help too. It just feels hard to find what really works sometimes, you know? Talking to the boss might be an option if this keeps up.
well, i gotta say, mate, it kinda sounds like you're putting a lot of blame on adhd without maybe considering other potential factors; sometimes it's not just about the diagnosis itself but also how we manage our environment and routines. could it be that distractions in your workspace are perhaps contributing to this constant zoning out? 🤔 minimizing these distractions might help create an atmosphere more conducive to maintaining focus for longer periods.
also, have you explored any mindfulness techniques or cognitive behavioral strategies that might assist in improving concentration during long meetings? i've heard some folks find success with those approaches; sure, they take time and effort to see results but could be worth trying. from what I understand, consistent practice can actually rewire how we handle attention tasks. don't forget: erratic thought processes are common even for folks without adhd if they're under stress or juggling too much at once.
again though, i'm not saying it's easy (or pretending there's a one-size-fits-all solution) but hopefully, some mix of these tactics gives a bit more control over the situation!
i hear you, and i guess you're right that it's not just the adhd itself. maybe i'm letting too much stuff get in my way at work. i haven't tried mindfulness or anything like that yet (it sounds kinda boring but hey, desperate times, right?). will give it a shot, thanks for the suggestion!
i know how frustrating it can be when you're struggling to stay focused during important conversations or meetings. look, everyone deals with distractions at some point or another right? maybe instead of feeling so guilty about zoning out we should try finding little tricks that could help us refocus quicker next time.
Man, that's rough. ADHD definitely messes with the day-to-day more than people realize. It's like there's a constant static in your head sometimes, right? I get the guilt thing too; it's frustrating to always feel like you're letting people down. Have you tried setting small goals during meetings or conversations? Sometimes having something physical to anchor me helps, like a stress ball or fidget spinner. And if all else fails, just be upfront with folks about it. Most people appreciate honesty and will cut you some slack when they know what's up!
have u tried meditation?
'nah never tried... might give it shot though!
I completely understand as I have similar problems during lectures.
yeah been there too dude
Bro, I totally get where you're coming from. The feeling of zoning out when you really need to focus can be super frustrating. Have you tried using any apps or tools designed for ADHD? They might help keep your attention a little more on track during those key moments. Also, relating to what my therapist once said about being patient with yourself: it's not about overcoming it overnight but finding small ways to cope each day. Finding some humor in these situations can lighten the load too!
Thanks for the empathy, it's like a rare gem. I haven't really tried any apps (but maybe I should look into it). "Be patient with yourself" sounds nice in theory but sometimes my patience is running on empty lol. Humor helps but man, it feels like I'm in a sitcom where everyone else knows the script except me!
honestly why care so much about what others think right? if they can't recognize the struggle you're going through then that's on them. we all have our faults and those who really matter will understand if you explain your situation clearly enough... at least that's what i'd hope for anyway!
Everyone tends to lose concentration occasionally even without ADHD symptoms so perhaps being kinder to yourself would help lessen that guilt.
Stop worrying about other people's judgments.
Easier said than done, right? I mean, yeah, maybe I shouldn't care as much but their judgments still mess with me. Ugh, it's just hard to shake off sometimes.
