The story

After receiving my recent job performance review, I've found myself engulfed in a whirlwind of self-doubt and insecurity. The feedback, though constructive, left me questioning my abilities and competence in ways I hadn't anticipated. While I understand that performance appraisals are designed to highlight both strengths and areas for improvement, this particular review seemed to accentuate every minor mistake I've ever made instead of praising my successes. Phrases like "requires additional training" and "needs improvement on time management" echoed in my mind for days. This situation has become a significant source of stress, affecting not only my professional life but also seeping into my personal relationships and self-esteem.

At home, I find myself more withdrawn than usual. Conversations with friends and family feel forced because I'm constantly preoccupied with thoughts of inadequacy; it's impacting how I perceive myself as a partner and friend. No matter how many times loved ones reassure me of my worth, the nagging question remains: Am I truly contributing meaningfully to any part of my life? It's difficult to shake off these feelings when the voice in your head keeps challenging your capabilities! I've read articles stating that negative feedback can be an opportunity for growth, yet all it seems to do is diminish whatever confidence I had left! Have others experienced something similar after such evaluations or am I overreacting here? 🧐
