How long does it take to get over a 2 year relationship?
The story
so I'm 26, and I've been trying to figure out how long it takes to get over a two-year relationship. it's been bugging me really bad lately. He was perfect for me, or at least I thought so, but then he just stopped loving me out of nowhere? It feels like I'm stuck in a loop of 'what ifs' and wondering if I'll ever feel that way again. Like, is there a specific timeline for this kind of stuff?!
people keep telling me time heals everything (ugh classic) but it's hard not to be skeptical when every morning still starts with the same ache in my chest. It's like even though months have passed since we broke up, his absence still hovers around like some annoying ghost. Wasn't expecting anything different today though, just another day waiting for something to change.
evenings are the worst because that's when all those memories hit hardest. we'll never walk in the park together again or laugh at silly jokes only we understood; it's kinda messed up how someone can go from being your whole world to just someone you used to know. feels like I'm carrying around this invisible weight all day long.
there's no handbook for heartbreak (unfortunately!) and maybe it’s dumb to think there should be one! But honestly, aren't emotions supposed to have an expiration date? How much longer am I meant to wallow before things don't feel so raw anymore? If anyone's got answers I'd love to hear... unless they're quoting "time will tell" again!

but why did he stop lovin u? maybe there's more underlyng issuse?
have you tried doing something totally new for yourself? When my last relationship ended, I started this weird hobby... nothing mind-blowingly deep, just something that was mine, not ours. Sometimes creating fresh memories can help start balancing out the old ones even when it feels impossible.
It's really frustrating when everything feels stagnant, isn't it? You're dealing with genuine heartache and it's hard enough without people tossing cliches your way. One thing that might help is focusing on small victories, even if they seem insignificant right now. Tracking little moments of joy or progress can sometimes shift the focus from what's lost to what still exists and is yet to come. Reclaiming a sense of independence, bit by bit, may eventually start dulling that ache in ways you don't anticipate yet. There’s no set timeline for healing; you're working through something incredibly personal at your own pace.
I think you'll heal faster than you expect!!
honestly hoping you're right.
move on already!!
i get it but try therapy if really needed??
Man, I totally get how frustrating it must be. Relationships don't exactly come with a playbook, you know? The whole "time will heal" bit can feel pretty hollow when you're stuck in that cycle of missing someone so much; feels like it's never-ending! Maybe try focusing on small wins every day instead of waiting for a big change... sometimes those tiny steps help more than we realize???
breakups always hurt :) it will be ok at the end...
it's understandable to feel puzzled about how long healing takes after such a significant relationship. each person's journey through heartbreak is as unique as a fingerprint, so there's no fixed timeline for moving on. but think of it like this: while we can't foresee exactly when the ache will fade, every little step you take towards self-care and embracing new experiences contributes to your recovery process. especially during those painful evenings, perhaps try channeling energy into activities that spark joy or bring peace... like picking up a hobby or diving into creative pursuits. these endeavors might not erase memories instantly but could gradually lessen their sting 🙂
maybe you'll meet someone new?! it's an exciting moment!!
Dang, it's rough when someone just dips like that! 😒 But hey, asking if there's a timeline is kinda tricky because everyone's different. Maybe try focusing on something new or diving into a hobby you love? 🤔 Keeps your mind busy and who knows, might speed up the process better than some lame "time will tell" quote. Ever tried picking up something creative?
Honestly, breakups don't come with an instruction manual; it'd be nice if they did. Everyone's healing timeline is different, no right or wrong here. Sometimes it just takes longer than we’d like, so don’t beat yourself up over it. One day, it'll just click a little more. Until then, hang in there!
idk, but it feels like maybe there's no set rule for how long you should feel this way; everyone deals with things on their own time. sometimes i wonder if we just need to be a bit more gentle with ourselves instead of racing towards "getting over" it as quickly as possible. emotions are so messy and unpredictable, right? but what if it's less about waiting for the pain to vanish and more about accepting that it's part of the process... even when it sucks bad! maybe letting yourself sit in those feelings without trying to push them away could gradually make them lose their grip? 🤔
healing takes its own time sometimes...
yeah but doesn’t knowing how long help too?
Yo, breakups suck hard for sure and the ache feels like it’ll never end sometimes. 😔 But have you ever thought about how much space you're giving this dude in your life even now? Easier said than done but maybe try to set some boundaries with your own thoughts?? like, limit the time you spend dwelling on it each day, kind of like an emotional curfew. Might sound silly but could be worth a shot!
I completely understand where you're coming from! When my ex left me after three years, it felt like the end of the world too. I was shattered and didn't know how I'd move on. Over time though, little by little it got better. Hang in there!
You know, dwelling on the past and wondering "what if" is like getting stuck in a loop that's hard to break; it's honestly exhausting. But trying to find some kind of silver lining here might help (sounds cliché, I know). Maybe think about what you learned from the relationship rather than just focusing on its end. Every experience tweaks who we are: we grow, adapt, or even realize what we really need in a partner moving forward. Not that it makes waking up to that ache any easier, but it might shift your mindset over time. Hearts are annoyingly resilient even when they don't feel like it at first.
it's tough, huh?
It sounds like you're really going through a rough patch, and I totally get why you'd feel skeptical about all the typical advice people toss your way. But here's another angle: consider reframing those moments that seem unbearable. Instead of seeing memories as haunting reminders, maybe try viewing them as chapters in a story where things just happened to take an unexpected turn; no one can predict how others might change their feelings, and trying to untangle "why" might lead nowhere fast. Life has a funny way of introducing new possibilities when you least expect it, so focusing on what's ahead rather than what's behind could slowly lighten that invisible weight you're carrying around 🙂
ugh, it's tough when everyone just throws the "time heals" line at you like it solves everything; processing emotions is messy, and there's no clock on how fast it'll go. to be honest, it might not be what you want to hear, but sometimes reflecting on what *wasn't* perfect about him or the relationship helps widen your perspective a little. i know evenings are rough... maybe switch up your routine then! sometimes keeping busy with new hobbies or meeting new people can ease some of that weight off your shoulders. emotions don't really expire on command, they're more like guests that overstay their welcome; but slowly pushing them out one step at a time makes space for better days ahead. hang in there! 🙃
"time heals," right?!!
ya but ur heart lets go slowly sometimes.
Man, breakups can really screw with your head, huh? 😅 It's weird how you can feel so connected to someone and then it all just goes poof. Low-key wonder if part of it is like, redefining who you are without them around, you know? Might sound nuts, but maybe try questioning what you thought was perfect about him and why; sometimes looking at things from a different angle helps. Who knows, maybe seeing the cracks might make moving on just a tad easier... or not! 🤷♂️ Either way, don't rush yourself; healing's gotta be on your terms.
well, it's totally fair to be skeptical about that "time heals" mantra. people can throw it around like it's some magic spell; but emotions don't work on a set schedule. might sound grim but what if you focused more on self-reflection instead? understanding why you're feeling this way and how it relates to your past experiences could give you more clarity than just waiting for the ache to vanish; piecing together what exactly makes these memories hit so hard might help chip away at that invisible weight bit by bit. not instant relief but maybe a step in the right direction? 🤷♀️
