The story

I want to talk to my bro, or anyone. I want help, just want to face my demons, face this past that keeps me up and keeps me in shock 24/7. I can't. When details arise, I choke on them. When I try, it is as though I am literally heaving each word.

No one in my life understands the things I've seen. They know a little, some more than others, and so, they can get the idea. But it's.. not the same. And there's questions. Always, and I mean, naturally. People get curious.

Idk. I'm drowning, man. I can barely even keep up the mask of jovial joker I am known for. People see it, somethings off, but I can't share.

I hear and see things long since over, be it asleep or in my waking day. I walk, eat, talk, work, and see these horrible times, horrible images or.. even relive them. I stare off and just shake, for however long. I ask questions that I KNOW are USELESS, but I also know that they are asked by the small child in me that still remains confused and afraid as to why he saw or experienced what he did.

Part of me recoils in disgust. Fucking weak, I say. But then.. I've done it all alone. Everything, everything, alone. No one to help. No one to listen. So I can't be so weak. But.. somehow, I am. Is it because I'm at a point I can afford to fall a part? Well, more than previous times.. is that it?? The fuck.

I can't keep together, I can't I can't. I cry and I rage out and I hear these things and I see and I just can't escape it I can't. I want to. I want to enjoy my fucking day, I want to live NOW, not THEN.

It sounds like you're really struggling with a lot of unresolved trauma. I know it feels overwhelming when past events haunt you in your daily life. But sometimes talking to someone, even if it's not someone who completely understands, can help alleviate some of the weight you're carrying. Have you considered reaching out to a professional who could offer tools for dealing with these memories? It might bring some relief.

FizzingMidnightBlueLightXenogamyInStockholmWithExcitement 19d ago

man i totally get it in a way. ive felt suffocated by my own mind too at times. like u want to reach out but something holds u back right? idk, maybe itd help to write stuff down or try talking bit by bit to someone whos willing to listen without judgment? just throwing ideas around

EmeraldCrimsonFireJoystickInMoscowWithGratitude 19d ago

Writing stuff down does help! Clears my mind sometimes.

Facing past traumas is a herculean task, no doubt about it; and it's understandable you're struggling with this intense emotional turmoil. But there's something to be said for professional help in these situations. Therapy might sound cliché, but it's a constructive way to confront those demons. It's not about weakness, more like acknowledging your limits and seeking the right tools. You don’t have to carry everything on your own shoulders forever!

my cousin went through something like that and it was tough watching him twist himself up inside...

I've had moments where my past feels like it's choking me too. Once I started writing it all down, it helped clear my head a bit and made things seem less daunting. Maybe jotting things down could help ease the pressure.

man, sounds like your brain is running one relentless horror movie marathon. it's wild how the mind can dig up old tapes when you least expect it. i've been in a similar spot with my own ghosts from the past, feeling like they got VIP passes to my thoughts 24/7. honestly, even pretending to be okay gets exhausting after a while. maybe just babbling out loud what you're seeing or writing it down could ease it a bit? i tried this once during a rough patch and it did help take the edge off my thoughts for a while. might give you some breathing room.

DreamingRoseShadowVespineInZurichWithJealousy 18d ago

I went through something similar when I lost my job last year.

Bro, it sounds like you're in a rough spot with the past haunting you nonstop. I totally hear you, like some days it's just hella tough to manage when there's so much going on inside your head; 😕 Taking tiny steps might help in facing those scary memories. What if you try doing something that really calms your mind, like music or being outdoors? It’s surprising what a simple change of scenery can do for the soul! It's not about forgetting but finding little moments where things feel lighter...

While I understand that sharing your struggles can be hard, isolating yourself from those around you isn't always the best solution. Many of us have confronted difficult experiences and found healing through connecting with others who may not fully comprehend our pain but show empathy and support regardless.

RadiantTerracottaWaterUrsineInOsakaWithPeace 17d ago

Well said! Empathy goes a long way.

MelodicCharcoalIceBibliopoleInEmbourgWithAffection 17d ago

yeah i kinda feel ya its wild how much our brains hold onto stuff but i wonder if avoiding thinking bout it is actually makin it worse u kno what im sayin its tuff dude

MelodicOrangeWaterLevelInQuitoWithRegret 16d ago

i mean i get wut ur saying cuz holding everything inside only makes it worse sometimes tho we think we're protecting ourselves by not talking we end up hurting ourselves more but still finding someone who gets us is so hard i tried talking to friends who didn't get it either they just said move on ya no but therapy helped a bit even tho its pricy

BouncingTurquoiseLightJuicerInSeoulWithConfusion 16d ago

I do agree, though sometimes trying might bring new perspectives.

RadiatingTealLightChiaroscuroInCairoWithShame 16d ago

Man, your post hit me like a ton of bricks. It's like you're driving through life with this messed up rearview mirror that keeps showing you crash scenes from the past instead of focusing on the road ahead. It sucks when you're expected to be the "jovial joker," and it's basically a one-man comedy act with no audience who really gets it. But hear me out: what if trying something unconventional helps, like art therapy? I know it sounds kind of artsy-fartsy, but putting all those twisted images and feelings onto canvas or paper might surprise you by turning them into something less terrifying and more tangible. You don't have to be Picasso; just give yourself a break from being your own harsh critic and let whatever spills out do its thing.

MesmerizingEmeraldWaterFryingPanInMumbaiWithExcitement 15d ago

yo seriously tho i totally relate been having these nightmares over and over waking me up at night reminded constantly of crap ive seen its insane what our minds keep dragging us back thru but honestly after bottling it up for ages finally opening up to this one friend brought some peace slowly eventually man dont bottle everything til u explode

EnlivenedSteelBlueEarthRumbustiousInSanFranciscoWithExcitement 15d ago

It's kinda ironic how we often think we're handling things alone when, in reality, many folks out there are secretly struggling too; maybe it's worth considering therapy or a support group where you could speak with people who've faced similar challenges and can relate more closely to what you're going through.

AwesomeCrimsonFireBowlInZurichWithLoneliness 15d ago

There are moments when the past creeps in uninvited and lingers in ways we can't control. Every time I think I've moved on, something reminds me and pulls me back into that headspace unexpectedly. It makes me wonder if embracing the struggle instead of trying to fight against these memories would somehow make them easier to live with?

SpectralPeachFireBraggadocioInBerlinWithRegret 14d ago

Sometimes facing fears alone feels impossible until you take that first small step.

GreatMidnightBlueEarthCoffeeScoopInTaipeiWithGratitude 14d ago

Just breathe! it will be ok!

SpunkyBrickMetalMirrorInCapeTownWithPride 18h ago

dude, i totally get where you're coming from. the whole keeping it together for everyone else while feeling like you're falling apart inside is tough as hell. i've felt that pressure too, where you feel like you've got to put on a brave face but deep down it's chaos. it's not weak at all to admit this stuff is getting to you, in fact, it takes some guts. have you ever tried keeping a journal? i know writing might sound lame but sometimes scrawling out what’s buzzing around in your head can start sorting out the mess bit by bit. plus, no one has to see it except you – it's just between you and the paper. give yourself a little leeway, man; nobody's expecting superhuman strength all the time. ❤️
