i feel like a burden
The story
So I recently went through a messy breakup and now I'm crashing at my sibling's place for a while. I really appreciate them letting me stay, but I can't shake this feeling that I'm overstaying my welcome. It's not that they're making me feel unwelcome, but I just can't help but wonder if they would enjoy their time more if I wasn't around.
Every time they hang out with friends or make plans, I can't help but think it would be more fun for them without me lurking in the background. I know I'm not being outright told I’m a burden, but these thoughts just keep creeping in. I feel like I'm taking up space (both physically and emotionally) in what used to be their peaceful home before I showed up.
I totally get that everyone needs personal space. We all deserve a break from obligations, especially when someone else is living with us. Even though my sibling hasn’t voiced any issues, I’m still constantly reflecting on whether I'm just intruding on their life.
Has anyone else felt like they're an unintentional imposition on someone else's routine? What do you even do about it? I think it might help to just talk things out openly, but I’m not sure how to start without making things awkward.
Another thing is that everyone sees things differently. Maybe I’m overthinking my presence here while my sibling doesn’t mind me at all. Still, I think having a conversation about how we both feel could help ease this anxiety that keeps hanging over me.
