i hate how i look
The story
so recently i went to this family gathering, right? you know how it is: the whole bunch large spread of food and lots of chit-chatting. i hadn't seen a lot of those faces in ages so it was sort of a big deal. anyway, everything's rolling along great, laughs all around and someone says 'let's get some photos'. okay cool no biggie or so i thought. next day. bam! i'm scrolling through social media and there they are those photos for literally everyone and their grandma to see. let me tell you seeing myself like that kinda felt like getting punched in the gut, lol.
i figured maybe i was just overthinking it at first but who am i kidding? people were dropping comments about how 'glowing' i looked and not gonna lie it made me feel good for a second. then outta nowhere boom back to self-doubt city population: me. why is it that even when people toss around compliments it still doesn't hit right? it's wild cos when you start spiraling down that rabbit hole things tend to get tricky fast.
might as well spill the tea here: my wardrobe ain't doing too hot these days either seriously it's like mismatched central up in my closet. so i'm guessing that's not helping the overall vibe i've got going on. now don't get it twisted i'm all about making do with what i've got (times are tough after all) but dang wouldn't mind switching things up once in a while instead of looking like something straight outta 'what not to wear'.
and yeah sure we're supposed to love ourselves and embrace our uniqueness etc etc but sometimes that's easier said than done ya feel me? every attempt at being chill about the sitch just seems to backfire into more insecurities. ugh it's exhausting honestly when folks hype you up yet here i am still nitpicking at every single thing going on looks-wise... 😒
maybe one day i'll wake up actually feeling fab in my own skin who knows till then guess i'll keep dodging mirrors wherever possible no shame in my game!

have u considered changing ur mindset instead?
mindset does matter tho sometimes it's tough!
Ugh, this whole scene sounds painfully relatable... It's a struggle, I swear! Photos popping up on social take me down a rabbit hole too like why does it feel so awkward seeing myself through someone else's lens? Social media just amplifies all those weird feels. And let's talk about the wardrobe crisis. Like seriously, it's as if my clothes always conspire against me right when I need to feel put together! 😂 For real though, doubting ourselves ain't anything new but yeah, sucks when even compliments can't shake off that self-criticism. Mirrors are evil sometimes but hey we're doing our best out here!
It sounds like you're really hard on yourself, especially after reading compliments from others online. I can totally understand feeling insecure with photos immediately available and broadcasted for everyone else to view though I'm curious if maybe some part of this stems from internal expectations we place upon ourselves rather than external input only.
We often mix what we think others expect vs what we want.
dude, i totally get being hit with those surprise social media photos! brutal sometimes! not gonna lie, it’s like they never capture the good angles, right?? 😆 it's crazy how compliments can be a double-edged sword. you'd think they'd make us feel better but nah, straight to nitpick city. been there. and hey, i swear my closet looks like a fashion crime scene too... gotta love just rolling with it though! 😉
Totally, right? It's like those photos have some secret mission to catch us off guard. 😂 And yeah, sometimes compliments just make me wanna focus even more on what I think is off. Fashion crime scene for sure... maybe one day we'll both upgrade to at least fashion misdemeanor! 😅
Dude, I totally get where you're coming from!!! 🥴 It's like, every dang time you think you've got a handle on those self-doubts, BAM! They hit you again. The whole wardrobe deal? Man, that's real. I mean, it's hard enough trying to keep your head up without feeling like you're dressing outta a yard sale 😂 My closet is basically "nothing-to-wear-ville." It’s these little things that can make or break our confidence sometimes. Hopefully we all can get some good shopping therapy one day and wake up feeling rad in whatever unique style we've got going on. Till then... just gotta roll with it!
Right? It's like every time you think you're okay, something else comes up and you're back to square one. I totally feel you on the wardrobe thing, it's like a never-ending cycle of "what am I even doing?" Shopping therapy sounds heavenly right about now. Till then, rolling with it is all we can do!
lmao i totally get that whole photo ambush situation. it's like you think you're okay with it until you're confronted by that unexpected mirror. honestly, screw the mismatch wardrobe thing... as long as you’re comfy, that’s what really counts, right? i've had days i practically lived in the same couple of shirts because hey, ain't nobody got time for endless outfit planning. and yeah, compliments sometimes bounce right off but they're way better than snide remarks so there's that small win at least. eventually you'll catch a break from the nitpicking cycle hopefully. keep doing you! 😊
I don't know if avoiding mirrors will help resolve how you feel.
man, family gatherings can be a trip, right? those photos just seem to pop up everywhere you don't want 'em. it's like social media's got radar for our insecurities... still, props for owning up about it here. maybe switching up the wardrobe doesn't require a total overhaul? sometimes just adding a new piece or keeping an eye on thrift finds can inject some fresh vibes into your look without breaking the bank. been there myself and it’s wild how even small changes make things feel different. hang in there!
man, i totally feel you on the rollercoaster of emotions from seeing yourself in those surprise pics. honestly, social media just has a way of blowing things outta proportion. it's like it magnifies everything we're already self-conscious about, ya know? maybe trying to find some humor in the whole wardrobe mess could lighten things up a bit (like mismatching on purpose and calling it "new wave fashion" 😂). sometimes acknowledging where we're at with a laugh can make spiraling less intense. 🤷♂️
We should embrace our uniqueness but also be realistic.
agreed embracing doesn't always come easy
Yo, I feel you!!! 😩 It's wild how social media can just smack you in the face with those photos. But honestly, who even has their life together all the time? Nobody! 😂 It's about owning the chaos sometimes. Screw wardrobe perfection when we got bigger dragons to slay; and don't forget, every dope fashion icon started out looking like a trainwreck at some point. Just treat it like your own unique vibe in work! Keep rocking what you've got and remind yourself you're the star of your own show, special effects included!! 🌟
Compliments are only meaningful if they're taken to heart.
