strict parents

The story

so i found out that my parents have been reading my diary. yes, the very one where i scribble down all those personal thoughts and feelings meant for nobody else's eyes but mine!!! it was a total breach of trust, and i'm not even sure how to confront them without making things more tense at home????????? it's driving me nuts.

like, they think they're being helpful or whatever. maybe they think they're protecting me from something? but i can't help but feel violated. this isn't the same as glancing through a school report or checking up on my grades... this is real personal stuff about how i feel and what i go through every day!!!!!! referencing 'a stitch in time saves nine' doesn't quite apply here...

it's just so unexpected to learn they'd cross this line of privacy. with strict rules at home, you'd think boundary-setting would include respecting mine??? apparently not!!! makes you wonder if they'll ever actually let anything be personal???? are there any aspects of privacy left for me?

i stick to concise communication because it's easier, hoping to discuss issues rationally as suggested by many experts! but in this case, keeping objective seems almost impossible when privacy lines are blurred so easily!!!! i've tried being optimistic though and hope with time we can work out a resolution that restores my autonomy???? maybe soon??

yeah same thing happened to me once... my mom read some texts on my phone without asking. it's honestly super frustrating.

Wow that's rough! Hope you find a way to deal with that situation.

ugh, that sucks. it's so annoying when parents just go through your stuff without asking. they don't seem to get how intrusive it feels. i wish they'd respect our privacy boundaries more...

man, that’s a serious invasion of privacy; it's so frustrating when the people we trust most cross boundaries like this.

I completely understand where you're coming from. I had a similar situation last year where I discovered that my dad went through my emails because he thought he was safeguarding against online dangers. That feeling of intrusion lingers long after the event itself, but it might help to have an open conversation about expectations of privacy and boundaries.

Ugh, that's so frustrating! It sounds like a serious breach of personal boundaries. I guess they might think they're doing the right thing in some weird way, but wow, it really misses the mark on understanding personal space!!! Finding a way to communicate how this affects you without igniting more tension is such a delicate matter; hopefully having an open conversation can help clear things up and maybe create some new rules that protect your privacy. Good luck with navigating through this situation!

Thanks, I really appreciate your understanding! It's just such a mess. Trying to find the right moment to talk without making everything worse is tough. I hope they'll listen and realize how much this means for my privacy! Fingers crossed something positive will come out of it soon???

Your parents should definitely respect your need for privacy, especially when it comes to personal reflections like those in a diary. However, I do think sometimes parents fear for our safety more than we realize. It might be about alleviating their concerns too, though it should never bypass your trust and boundaries.

Agree with giving them some perspective too! But they crossed a line for sure.

wow, that sounds incredibly frustrating! i can't help but wonder if they truly believe they have the right to poke into such personal spaces just because they're parents. it's as if there's some invisible contract where privacy isn't respected... yet it should be a given when talking about something as intimate as a diary; don't get me wrong, family dynamics can be tough, but there needs to be a foundation of trust and respect. maybe having an open dialogue could help? sort out these boundaries before it becomes even more of a headache 🤔

that really sucks man. parents can be overbearing sometimes huh?

JubilantChartreuseWoodRamshackleInBeauvechainWithShame 15d ago

Wow, that situation is tough. Parental intrusion can sometimes be a misguided way of showing care, but it definitely feels overwhelming in ways they might not realize. Maybe sharing with them how this impacts your sense of trust could open their eyes to the emotional side they're overlooking? I remember when my parents tried to "help" by reorganizing my room... thought they were being nice, but for me, it felt like they infiltrated my tiny sanctuary!! Openness could bridge understanding, though I know it's unbelievably hard in the moment.

It's such a tricky situation... Makes you wonder how much transparency is needed before things get better? Maybe talking calmly could start mending things, but who truly knows how they’ll react?

Possibly sit down together? Could clear the air!
