The story

Lately, I’ve been doing some serious thinking about my friendship with one of my closest friends, who just so happens to be a guy. We’ve always thought of our bond as totally platonic, right? But now, it feels like everyone around us is starting to raise an eyebrow. It’s making me wonder if it’s even possible to have a friendship without any romantic or hidden agendas involved when society is so quick to jump to conclusions. Seriously, can we really just be friends without the judgment clouding everything?

The constant questioning is driving me a little nuts! People have all these opinions about what our relationship should be, shoving societal expectations onto something that’s just genuine friendship. Is it really too much to ask for two people to have a deep connection without romance sparking up like a firework show? Now I’m stuck in my own head, feeling skeptical about whether we can keep our friendship pure without outside influences messing it up. How do other people even deal with this kind of stuff? Or am I just overthinking everything because of the pressure from onlookers?

And don't even get me started on the comments from mutual friends. One of them jokingly suggested that we should just date already, and I was like, "Are you serious?" It’s like they can’t fathom that two people can just enjoy each other’s company without wanting to get romantic. It’s exhausting, and I feel like I’m on a weird emotional rollercoaster where I'm questioning everything. The whole situation makes me want to scream, "Can we not just be friends?"
