people are disappointing
The story
it's kind of wild when the people you thought were solid start bailing on you. like, last weekend was supposed to be a chill night with friends, a chance to stuff our faces with good food and laugh a little. but as the clock ticked closer, my phone started blowing up with apologies. “sorry, can’t make it, unforeseen circumstances”... like, what even is that?
as someone who works in project management, I deal with last-minute changes all the time. I'm used to rolling with the punches. but it stings when those punches come from friends. sitting alone at a table for six, watching couples and groups around me laugh and share stories while I'm just there sipping my wine like a sad sitcom character? yeah, not the vibe I signed up for.
there’s that saying about actions speaking louder than words, right? people love to make big promises, but when it comes time to actually deliver, it’s like crickets. sure, life can throw curveballs, and plans change, but constant cancellations without even trying to reschedule? it feels like I’m just standing on the sidelines of my own social life.
still, I try to keep my chin up. I guess real friendships need work from both sides, kind of like a delicate ecosystem or something. I mean, you can’t just throw a few texts around and expect everything to be perfect. but then I think about how frustrating this all is. it does make me appreciate quality over quantity, especially when it comes to friends. so here’s hoping the next time we try to get together, it doesn’t turn into a game of who can cancel last minute... 🙃
