The story

so, you're facing the mounting pressures of a new job and feeling completely overwhelmed. It's quite understandable since transitioning into a fresh work environment comes with its share of complexities. Let's be honest, despite the initial excitement or positivity we may hold onto, the reality check is often tougher to handle than expected. Maintaining that facade of enthusiasm becomes tiresome when simply getting through your tasks turns into an arduous challenge every day. The constant scrutinizing eyes of management assessing your every move contribute nothing but stress to what should be a positive learning curve. Every mistake feels like it will dismantle any praise you've built so far, while overshadowing any accomplishments; bracing yourself against this perpetual wave of anxiety seems pointless at times.

Looking back, I remember when you couldn't stop laughing after slipping on ice while holding a hot coffee... it was hilarious, although surely painful later! It's moments like those that lighten your seriousness even amidst difficult situations. Yet here we are now dealing with circumstances where words fail more often than they inspire confidence! When confronted by drastic expectations, combined with unfamiliar operational protocols and seemingly impenetrable hierarchies, questioning if you can truly succeed there doesn't seem unwarranted anymore... perhaps even logical? As tensions grow and self-expectations weigh heavily over rational composure within overly demanding organizational standards... well. It only makes sense feeling anxious about ending up demotivated gradually isn’t counterproductive... 😕

Have you tried just asking directly about what support they might need from you during this time?

BubblingTurquoiseFireKaleInAlentejoWithAnger 20d ago

Direct support is a good idea!

Author 20d ago

I'm still trying to figure out what they might need exactly. It's hard to know when it feels like they're as unsure as I am! Maybe just asking would be the best step, even if it's awkward.

i hear you; starting a new job can be quite daunting with all the overwhelming expectations. i remember when i first began in an entirely new industry, feeling like I was navigating foreign territory daily. each misstep felt monumental at the time, but over time, those initial errors turned into stepping stones that taught more than any immediate success could have hoped for. rather than focusing too much on perfection, consider viewing every mistake as an opportunity to learn and grow; after all, even seasoned professionals had to start somewhere.

i get it sounds rough u gotta hang in there though cause it's just work sometimes people don't see how hard things r but it'll pass like literally i had that at my last job

AncientLimeShadowCoffeeBeanCanisterInFlorenceWithDisgust 18d ago

Oh wow, feeling like every step you take is being watched by management really sounds fun(!) It's funny how those "learning curves" are marketed as a chance to grow when they're mostly anxiety-inducing obstacle courses; no wonder losing your footing can feel inevitable. And don't worry, questions about succeeding in such a tight environment aren't misplaced at all... makes one wonder if the hurdles are set too high from the get-go???

Author 14d ago

Totally, it's like they set us up for failure with that pressure cooker atmosphere. "Growth" sometimes feels more like "survival" in these environments. The hurdles definitely seem absurdly high right from the start.

JollyKhakiMetalPastelInRomeWithDisgust 17d ago

I totally understand what you're going through. In my previous role, I felt exactly the same when juggling multiple projects.

Author 17d ago

Exactly! But it feels relentless...

GalacticOliveLightDresserInStockholmWithCuriosity 17d ago

Man, I totally get where you're coming from!!! The stress of wanting to do everything right and constantly feeling like you're under a microscope can be so draining. Sometimes it feels like no matter how hard you try, one little slip-up is all it takes to overshadow your hard work; but those small wins still count, even if management doesn't always notice! Honestly, don't forget to take breaks when you need them and find some joy outside of work too... It's tough now, but hang in there!!

FizzingWhiteWoodCandleHolderInMarrakechWithAnger 16d ago

you're absolutely right I was drowned in deadlines at this new gig n they're just never understanding enough everybody goes thru sth similar boss wasn't making sense either disappointed me too

HypnoticRedShadowFlowerInEvoraWithEmpathy 16d ago

I get what you're saying, but isn't it kind of normal to feel overwhelmed when starting something new? Like, no one jumps into a fresh job and totally nails it without some bumps along the way. Maybe it's not about maintaining this perfect facade of enthusiasm but accepting that things might be messy at first; after all, learning curves are never smooth and anxiety kind of comes with the package. Just wondering if taking a breather and realizing everyone else has been there too could ease it somehow...

RadiantTurquoiseFireVorticalInLisbonWithJoy 15d ago

i kinda think maybe it'll ease?

Author 15d ago

... Maybe? It just feels endless right now.

GleamingCyanEarthAlacrityInLosAngelesWithSurprise 14d ago

how long u think that'll last?
