The story

So, I was at this family gathering recently, right? And I overheard someone making a comment about my cousin being 'unhealthily' thin. Like, what even is that supposed to mean? It got me thinking about my own struggles with body image. You know how it is: everyone has their own idea of what 'healthy' looks like, and it feels like those standards are always shifting. It’s like trying to hit a moving target while blindfolded.

I mean, we all know how the media loves to put slimness on this pedestal, right? It creates this weird belief that your worth is somehow tied to the number on the scale or the size of your jeans. I’ve fallen into that trap before, comparing myself to whatever trend is hot at the moment instead of just focusing on feeling good. It can be exhausting.

But hey, there’s some good news in all this chaos. I’m really starting to see more conversations about body positivity popping up. It’s refreshing to see people advocating for health over aesthetics.

So here I am, reflecting on all these comments overheard at family get-togethers and feeling a mix of frustration and hope. We still have a long way to go, but at least it feels like we’re making progress toward embracing what makes us unique instead of trying to fit into a cookie-cutter idea of beauty. I just wish people would chill out and focus on being healthy in a way that feels right for them, rather than worrying about what everyone else thinks.
