Stay clean
The story
starting this sobriety thing has been one wild ride. I mean, who would have thought deciding to stop drinking could make me public enemy number one with my friends? Apparently just saying no isn't enough for people these days. They act like I've joined some weird cult or something; like I'm gonna start chanting slogans and handing out leaflets about clean living.
It kinda pisses me off how they can't just accept that I've decided to put the bottle down. But nah, being the designated driver somehow makes me less fun? The constant barrage of 'just one won't hurt' is exhausting. Newsflash: it might not hurt you, but it sure as hell messes with my life and career balance.
Speaking of careers, since getting sober my productivity has shot through the roof. Crazy right? Just goes to show how much alcohol clouds your ability to perform well at work. Clients notice too: I'm not stumbling over words in meetings anymore (literally).
Still, there's this constant pressure from social circles. It's like they can't wrap their heads around the fact that some people actually choose sobriety voluntarily. And no, I don't need a drink to enjoy karaoke night or a friend's birthday party 🙄 It's called having self-control and priorities.
