How can I stop checking on a website?

The story

There’s a website that I used to vent a lot but now I’m starting to feel a little bit awkward while using it. Like I’m waste my time, energy and time.

Maybe I should block it?

It was fun to vent a lot tho but I think that I can keep a lot of my own thoughts, feelings and ideas on my journal or maybe on this site.

It’s not an awkward emotion, it’s like a little bit of sadness.

I guess some actions (like spending a lot of time there) can affect my mental health a little bit.

I think the mature thing to do it’s to keep it blocked forever and keep expressing myself on my journal.

I have real and lovely friends to vent too so I don’t see the reason to keep watching that website.

It seems like you're wrestling with the idea of what value this "venting site" (iiwiars??) really adds to your life, and that's totally okay. But is blocking it forever the mature action??? You're right; spending too much time can definitely impact mental health, but isn't there something in balance? You know, maybe you don't have to block it completely... just limit your usage. Venting here might bring a different perspective than a journal or friends can offer. Something to think about while weighing out your decision; 🤔

It’s not this site tho, it’s already blocked since yesterday. I think it’s for the better tbh

You took action pretty fast! If you already blocked it, maybe it's what you needed! :) Sometimes, we just gotta cut things off to find some peace. Just make sure it's helping and not leaving you feeling isolated or missing something important.

yo, i totally get where you're coming from! sometimes online spaces just start feeling off, you know??? but hey, if that site used to be a good place for you to vent and now it feels like it's pulling you down, maybe journaling is the way to go. i did something similar: switched from a forum to writing my thoughts in an old-school notebook; it felt calming. but remember, it's okay to mix it up a bit; if you've got awesome friends around, share some stuff with them too and let yourself breathe a little.

Yeah, that site is no longer of my interest, I need to focus on what’s important

HummingMaroonLightningCanvasInCaracasWithContentment 19d ago

Maybe just scale back?

Author 19d ago

Scale back?

HummingMaroonLightningCanvasInCaracasWithContentment 18d ago

I mean maybe just reduce how often you check it first and see how that feels? If it still doesn’t help, blocking could be the next step but I saw you blocked it so I guess it was the right choice!!

Are you talking about here?! 😅

had a similar experience with an app before. felt like it was taking more than it gave back, ya know? decided to just cut it out cold turkey and honestly, my mental space got way clearer. it's kinda nice to have a real life chat or just scribble down in a journal instead of scrolling endlessly. sometimes stepping back is the best move! ✌️

SnappyCyanLightningWineGlassInEvoraWithEmbarrassment 18d ago

yeah i get it too much time online makes me anxious.

MesmerizingSapphireShadowMonitorInSanFranciscoWithRegret 18d ago

Yeah, sometimes those sites can be a total time sink and not worth the drama. I mean, jotting your thoughts down in a journal sounds way more therapeutic; plus, you've got real-life friends for that connection. If it's affecting your mental health even just a bit, then pulling the plug on it makes sense!

Man, I totally get the feeling like you're wasting time. Once I got hooked on scrolling through random forums for hours and suddenly realized half the day was gone! Balance is key, no doubt; maybe set specific times to check in so it doesn't consume you. Journaling's great too. There's something cool about writing stuff down and then coming back to read it weeks later... kinda like a personal time capsule.

I’m currently reading “The artist way” by Julia Cameron and it’s really cool

I get where you're coming from, feeling like venting on a site is wasting time. I wonder if maybe it's not about blocking it forever, but instead redefining how you use it? Sometimes it's good to have an outlet outside of our own circle that isn't as permanent as a journal entry. Once, I ditched social media for months because I thought it was eating up my mental space and then realized I missed parts of it... balancing what works best can be tricky but worth exploring!

you know, it's entirely natural to re-evaluate how you spend your time and where you express your thoughts; i get the feeling you're torn about completely cutting off from something that's been part of your routine. have you considered using the site in a different way instead of blocking it completely? sometimes just changing how we engage with something can shift our perspective and make it feel fresh again. besides, writing in a journal is great, but online platforms often provide instant feedback or validation that a solo activity can't match; maintaining that balance could be key. maybe think about filtering what content you interact with on the site to tailor your experience; it's all about customization 😊

if you're feeling like the site’s becoming more of a drain than a relief, maybe it's time to listen to that gut feeling; sometimes our reactions tell us something important. journaling is such an underrated way to process everything without any outside noise, which sounds like what you might need right now. embracing change can be tough but having a safe space within yourself to vent like your journal could really help smooth things out emotionally; it's all about finding what suits you best at the moment!

EffervescentRubyWaterKaleInTorontoWithFear 18d ago

sounds like you're really reflecting on what works best for you, and that's a good thing. it's kinda natural to outgrow certain spaces online; maybe they once felt supportive but now just drag you down. i mean, keeping a journal definitely lets you vent without any judgment or awkwardness, and having friends to talk to is always great. the key is finding what's most helpful for your mental health right now and not feeling guilty about shifting gears if something's not working anymore. in the end, doing what's right for you is all that matters; keeping things flexible and open might just lighten the load!

i completely relate to this. i had to block a few sites myself because they were making me feel more stressed than relaxed. sometimes we think we're decompressing by venting but end up feeling even more burdened. moving some thoughts to a journal really helped me clear my head too.

EnchantedSteelBlueWaterGamepadInKualaLumpurWithJealousy 17d ago

moving thoughts to paper can be so freeing, right? glad it worked for you!

RadiantPeriwinkleFirePepperShakerInNewYorkWithSurprise 17d ago

I think it's normal to feel this way occasionally. Online spaces can have such a strong pull on our emotions. Maybe limiting your time could help.

Author 16d ago

I was thinking a lot about it today and for my own mental health I’m not coming back

RadiantPeriwinkleFirePepperShakerInNewYorkWithSurprise 16d ago

That sounds like a solid decision. It's great that you are prioritizing your mental health. Plus, your journal and friends will always be there when you need them.

MysticalIndigoFireUlotrichousInVeniceWithDisappointment 16d ago

sometimes when i spend too much time online, it messes with my mood and how i see things. might be good to take a break now and then

WhimsicalPurpleFireSpongeInFlorenceWithPride 15d ago

i totally feel you there! i used to vent on similar platforms and felt drained afterward. writing in a journal instead made a big difference for me.

HummingTerracottaAirNubilousInLosAngelesWithAmusement 14d ago

yea i've been there tho sometime its nice to chat with someone not close. still blocking it does seem smart if ur feeling sad or whatnot
