why am i not attracted to anyone?
The story
so here's the deal: i have been wondering why i am not attracted to anyone? it all started in my late teens, honestly. i just cannot figure out what is wrong with me !!!! like everyone around me seems to feel this magnetic pull towards someone but i never feel it !!!! i see them talking about butterflies in their stomachs, yet here i am, feeling nothing !! what a fraud of a life?!
when i was younger and naive, maybeeee i thought it would arrive eventually.. some big romantic fireworks that never came. even at work, seeing colleagues flirt and date does not trigger anything in me. no profession-related pressure to find a partner affects my drive! it's almost like there's an inherent lack of wiring – something only science can answer for me.
do isolated sections of society face similar emotional detachment ??? perhaps... but why do people keep asking if i'm alright when the absence of 'desire' or 'affectionate affinity' appears sufficient ???! sure, friends mean well... yet every inquiry into my solitary status grates on nerves frayed by persistent doubts scratching beneath confident masks!
is attraction really necessary companionship??? practically speaking – yes; emotionally confused-unprepared-indifferent optimist says meh ??!! comprehending whispered words confounds my logic more than understanding architectural blueprints does!! why can't they accept my choice ??? are labels such as single meant to imply negativity ???? infinity: therein lies truth hidden beneath constant probing!

I understand your frustration and definitely think attraction isn't everything. But sometimes, being open might lead you to unexpected feelings.
omg same here!!! I've felt exactly like that for years and it took me forever to just be okay with it. once I realized I don't need those 'butterflies' life got easier and less dramatic lol. also had friends nagging nonstop but they're now used to it.
yeah maybe I am overthinking haha ! thanks!
You know, your story reminds me of my cousin who felt exactly like you do. She’s always been pretty chill about the whole romance thing. I remember her telling me once that she just doesn’t feel those butterflies everyone talks about and that it’s never really bothered her. Her biggest annoyance was people constantly prying into her love life, assuming something must be wrong if she wasn’t dating. But now she's living her best life focusing on things that truly make her happy without the pressure of fitting into society's expectations for relationships. Sometimes it's not about having answers but embracing what feels right for you!
Sounds like you're navigating a tough situation. It's really interesting how you're questioning these societal norms about attraction and relationships. Maybe there's not something "wrong" with you at all, but rather society's lens is just too narrow to see beyond the usual romantic narrative; focusing on what makes you happy might be more fulfilling than trying to fit into what's expected.
i had a similar thing back in college where everyone seemed so into each other and i just didn't get it. turned out later I was ace so your story totally resonates.
man, that sounds kinda familiar! i remember when i was in high school, my friends were all about those crazy crushes and i'd just shrug it off like "what's the big deal?" it took me a while to realize not feeling romantic attraction doesn't mean something's wrong with you. everyone experiences life differently... some people are into romance and others just aren't. labels can be limiting anyway, so who needs 'em if you're comfy with where you're at? life's too short to worry about fitting into someone else's idea of normal, ya know?
man, i totally get where you're coming from. it's like people think not being attracted is a problem but it's really just how some of us roll; so many folks expect you to fit in that norm and it gets exhausting!!! i once dated someone 'cause everyone said it'd change my feelings, but instead it was me who felt even more out of place 😬. maybe society just pressures too hard on this attraction thing... sometimes feels like being different means you're pickin' the wrong choices but nah, what's important is doing you and feeling comfortable with it!
It's perfectly fine not to be attracted !!! society pressures us too much imo. for example growing up, all that mattered was who liked who or dating gossip - none of which interested ME ever !!! constantly questioned myself- we're always told there's this 'one', distracting from other growth paths ! sound familiar?
Have you considered discussing this with someone professionally? There may be underlying reasons you're not aware of.
...it's crossed my mind but feels awkward...
no lie, society sure likes to slap a label on everything 😅 but here's the thing: who says everyone needs to fit into this romantic box? if you're not feeling it, guess what – that's just you being true to yourself; no crime there! plus, diving into friendships and hobbies often reveals more about what truly fulfills you. you've got your own journey and whether or not romance plays a role in that is totally up to you; gotta focus on what makes life awesome for *you*, right?!
it's true!!! society loves its labels! my life feels like a shapeless question mark, not bound by boxes. my heart's stubborn silence isn't criminal, and maybe these friendships are where real treasures hide! why can't they see?? embrace the unknown of what fulfills!!! 🌀
Are you asexual? Maybe???
hmmm, maybe? i once tried reading up on asexuality. kind of like searching for myself in a book full of definitions and subcategories. felt sort of relatable but still confusing, honestly!
u know wat dude just chill its probably cool bein single but u needa realize ppl jus care ok & yea dont read 2much into em all the time its meh normal right
totally relate though maybe questioning those labels could help redefine how you're seeing things? it's not always clear cut.
