The story

Oh boy, where do I even start? Lately, it feels like I'm stuck in some kind of never-ending loop...like the film Groundhog Day. I get up, slog through work, handle all those mundane chores we all know and love (or hate), and then rinse and repeat. It's like I've become this mindless automaton going through the same predictable motions day after day. I mean, does anyone else feel like they're living life on autopilot?

The other night, I was out at dinner with some friends. You know how these things go: everyone laughing, chatting about this and that. But there I was, sitting at the table spacing out into oblivion. At that moment, it hit me like a ton of bricks: I couldn't for the life of me remember the last time I'd genuinely felt happy or excited about anything. Like, really happy; not just a fleeting sense of 'hey-this-is-fun' but a deep-seated joy that lights up your soul.

So there I was with my face cleverly disguised as someone involved in riveting conversation when inside I was drowning in existential dread. It got me thinking back to this famous line from: 'The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation.' Yep; that's been me lately. Living quietly desperate or rather desperately quiet...take your pick.

It might sound bleak (and maybe it's just the sarcastic side speaking), but if you think about it, we're all supposed to find meaning in our jobs or relationships or whatnot. That's what they tell us anyway: just focus on those goals and passions and everything will fall into place! Except when it doesn't... And here I am wondering if there's something wrong with my internal GPS because clearly I'm lost at sea without a map or compass.
