New relationship anxiety
The story
i recently entered a new relationship after the mess that was my last breakup. it's supposed to be exciting right? well, for someone who's still hanging by the threads of anxiety from being burned last time, it's been... let's just say, a challenge. every tiny action or word from my partner gets dissected under a microscope when, really, it probably doesn't mean anything! do they like me as much as i like them? is this all in my head??? trust issues are such an annoying baggage to carry into something fresh yet here we are; there are moments where i'm completely in the moment and truly happy but then, bam! imagining scenarios where i'm hurt again pops up outta nowhere...that's exhausting.....
having gone through a pretty nasty breakup before has left me with scars that don't seem to fade. i try my best to shake off these lingering doubts because it's not fair: for either of us. but who am i kidding?! it’s like walking on eggshells around myself. sometimes i feel like blowing up over the smallest things even if deep down i know they’re ridiculous fears playing tricks on my mind. can't blame anyone else when you're your own worst enemy huh? communication helps they'd say....but how do you voice insecurities without seeming clingy or dramatic?
i start doubting every plan we make together or wondering about the tone of their texts...isn't that stupidly draining? yeah... paranoid isn't it? constantly fearing betrayal and mistrust whispering at the back of your mind. so what now? keep smiling through gritted teeth hoping nobody notices... jump ship at any sign of trouble maybe?? part of me is too tired for this endless cycle while another part desperately hopes things'll turn out differently despite everything.

have you tried asking them how they feel about it all? sometimes talking things out can help relieve some of the stress and anxiety.
've tried but words fail whenever we talk bout this stuff!!
I totally get you! My last breakup made me fear new relationships too.
What exactly makes you think they'll hurt you?
It's not one specific thing, I guess. It's those little insecurities that creep up because of past experiences. Even though I want to trust and move forward, scars from before still mess with my head sometimes, making me second-guess everything. It's like a defense mechanism gone rogue.
oh man, i totally get where you're coming from. starting a new relationship with old trust issues can feel like you're carrying a backpack full of bricks that you can't set down. it's tough to navigate, especially when your brain goes into overdrive analyzing every little thing they do or say. but hey, the fact that you're aware of it and trying to handle it is already a big step forward! 🧠 maybe give yourself some credit for even being open to love again... not everyone has the guts for that after a tough breakup. communication's tricky when you don't wanna seem clingy but sometimes putting those fears on the table can actually bring you closer. perhaps it’s about finding that balance between being vulnerable and still protecting yourself. have you thought about sharing just *one* small insecurity first and seeing how that's received? could make it less daunting than dumping everything at once, ya know?
man, those trust issues are a beast.
I felt similarly after my breakup but talking openly with my current partner helped a great deal.
yo, it sounds like you're carrying a lot of weight from your past into this new relationship. totally feel you on the whole trust issue thing; it's a real pain when past experiences keep creeping in. have you ever considered journaling or something creative to help process those emotions? sometimes just getting thoughts out of your head and onto paper can lighten the load a bit 🙂 also, do you think sharing small positive moments with your partner might help solidify the good stuff more than overthinking the negatives? shifting focus might ease some of that anxiety while giving you both a chance to connect over happy things!
i'm gonna give that journaling thing a shot. it might help me untangle some of this mess in my head. sharing the positives sounds like a good move too... let’s see if it helps drown out the noise a little. thanks for that!
oh man, i feel you big time. it's like having a little gremlin on your shoulder whispering doubts all day long. for me, journaling helped a bit. every time those paranoid thoughts creep in, i'd jot them down and somehow it made them less overwhelming. also, sometimes just focusing on the fun stuff you both enjoy together can be a great distraction from the overthinking spiral. i'm rooting for ya!
relationships be hard dude; went through smth similar myself.
sounds rough man tho maybe it's not always bad?
yeah maybe its not so bad!
Man, I feel you. It’s like the past just refuses to let go, huh? You're not alone in dealing with this but it can be super draining. And yeah, relationships are already a handful without past baggage tagging along. Ever tried jotting down your thoughts before a conversation? Sometimes writing helps untangle that mess of emotions... who knows, it might make things clearer next time you wanna chat about it.
it's like that time when i started dating someone new shortly after a rough breakup.
i feel you, it’s like trying to heal and move on while still carrying scars from the past. It can be so confusing, juggling new feelings with old anxieties... it helps knowing someone else has been through that too. how did you handle it?
Maybe you're overthinking it?!
While I understand your feelings, perhaps focusing more on building trust gradually could help ease some anxieties. Remember everyone brings their individual quirks into a relationship and giving space for those differences might reveal unexpected strengths together rather than constant worry or doubt overshadowing potential happiness.
sounds like you're in a bit of a pickle, isn't it? honestly, it feels like this trust stuff kinda just overcomplicates things. ever think maybe the cool thing about new relationships is that they’re unpredictable and messy sometimes??? instead of focusing on those what-ifs and micro-analyzing everything your partner says, maybe it's worth trying not to sweat the small stuff so much and letting things unfold naturally; yeah, bumpy rides can be fun too!! though if you keep finding yourself on edge all the time, might be good to step back and figure out what's truly bugging ya. who knows? maybe checking in with how *you* really feel could take some load off the situation 🙃
Dude, you're not alone in feeling paranoid about the small stuff after a rough breakup, and it can mess with your head big time; but ever thought about flipping the script? Instead of focusing on what could go wrong, try imagining everything going right for once. Visualizing positive outcomes might help ease those negative thoughts. I've been there too, and honestly, practice keeping things chill by addressing one small doubt at a time with your partner. It might surprise you how understanding they are! Good luck, you got this!!!
i hear ya loud n clear... had crazy similar experience when starting fresh with someone new after getting dumped badly. analyzing each text n call till u drive urself nuts thinking ur gonna get ghosted again ain't worth living in constant fear believe me lol!
