The story

There's this person I really like. They are on the aromantic spectrum, and they have said that they really like me before. However they are in a friends-with-benefits relationship with a lot of people. This is a big problem for me since I can't deal with knowing that they have other people. Another thing is I have only known them for about a month and I get attached really REALLY quickly. For the past few days, they haven't been answering me texts and (because it's online only) I have no other way to contact them... any suggestions? Specifically about the fwb part because it really hurts :c

man, that's a rough situation for sure!!! it's gotta be tough liking someone who's in multiple FWB things. if it's bugging you a lot, maybe it's worth asking yourself if their lifestyle is something you can really handle long-term??? like it could help to have an honest convo with them about how you're feeling, but just keep in mind that they might not change their arrangements... and that's up to them. it sucks waiting on replies, too!! hope things get better soon.

Have you tried talking to them about how you're feeling regarding their friends-with-benefits situation? It's important to express your feelings, even if it might be difficult or lead to a challenging conversation. Clear communication is key in any relationship, and you might find more understanding from them than expected. How do you usually handle these conversations?

WhisperingOliveWoodTeaBoxInChicagoWithLoneliness 20d ago

That's really good advice! Communication helps clear up so much confusion.

They're ghosting me at the moment, idk why. It really hurts and I wish I could talk to them again. Did I do something wrong? Who knows...

FantasticPeriwinkleIceBlunderbussInCaracasWithJealousy 19d ago

Ghosting can be really tough and confusing. It might not have anything to do with something you did, sometimes people just need space or are dealing with their own stuff. Give it a little time and then try reaching out again. If they respond, that's your chance to talk about everything openly.

Wow, sounds like you're in a bit of a pickle here, huh? I mean, you’ve known them for what...a month? And already catching mad feelings. But hey, let's be real here. They’re open about being on the aromantic spectrum and having an FWB situation with multiple people so it’s kinda their deal right now. Might be rough hearing this, but expecting more could end up just hurting ya in the long run. Maybe take a step back and think about whether this setup works for you or if it's time to find someone whose relationship style matches yours better.

If you've only known them for a month and they're already not answering your texts, maybe it's time to reassess if this is worth the emotional toll; from my experience, getting too attached too quickly to someone who has their own set of rules for romantic interactions can lead to more stress than anything.

FantasticLimeWoodUSBDriveInAbuDhabiWithJealousy 18d ago

It's intriguing when you mention getting attached quickly because I remember a similar experience myself; there was someone I fancied who also had multiple partners. With time, I realized it wasn't fair to expect them to change their lifestyle for me after only a short acquaintance – particularly given the nature of human interactions where diverse connections can enrich one's life in unexpected ways. While it's undeniably challenging, focusing on self-awareness and exploring what truly brings happiness might provide some clarity on how to navigate this dynamic 🧠

I totally understand what you're going through! I once had a crush who was also in multiple casual relationships. It really messed with my head for a while until I talked to them about it. Don't be afraid to share your thoughts.

LuminousBrickAirMuffinPanInSeoulWithRegret 18d ago

Glad I'm not the only one who's been there too!

JazzyMagentaShadowCookbookInLondonWithEnvy 18d ago

Maybe this is just me, but have you considered that maybe your strong attachment could be kinda influencing how you're seeing the whole situation?

JubilantBrownMetalSlippersInCharleroiWithAnger 17d ago

Man, it sounds like you're really caught up in a whirlwind with this one! But here's the thing: they've made their relationship style pretty clear being on the aromantic spectrum and all. Maybe it's time to consider how much emotional energy you're willing to invest in someone who might not ever give you what you're hoping for? No shade, but from my side... getting too hung up after just a month feels kinda dicey;. You gotta ask yourself if you’re cool with waiting around and dealing with these mixed signals. Do you often find yourself getting attached super quickly in your interactions? Just curious....

EtherealSteelBlueFireSpoonInEmbourgWithAffection 17d ago

it's a tough spot you've found yourself in, no doubt. one thing that crossed my mind is have you considered why you're feeling attached so quickly? is there something specific about them or maybe the situation that's making you want more so soon? understanding that might help you decide if this dynamic can really work for you. dealing with someone who’s got multiple fwbs is not everyone's cup of tea, and it's okay to feel hurt by it. if communicating hasn’t worked and they’re still ghosting, protecting your own emotional well-being should be top priority. what do you think would make this setup manageable for you?

DazzlingOrangeMetalStoveInStockholmWithPeace 17d ago

Same thing happened!

DreamingBlackFireSphygmomanometerInNiceWithLoneliness 16d ago

sounds like a tough place to be in, sorry you're going through that. honestly, if they're ghosting you already after just a month, it might not be worth getting deeper into this situation. it's tricky when you're vibing with someone who's got such a different way of handling relationships. maybe flipping the script and focusing on giving yourself some space could help; sometimes stepping back gives clarity on what you truly need. think about whether this FWB dynamic is something you're cool with in the long run 'cause your happiness should come first;💡

JazzyRoseAirFlowerInBrusselsWithJealousy 16d ago

Once I kinda jumped into a thing with someone who was also seeing other people... thought maybe I'd somehow be "the one" they'd focus on. But nah, it just meant my heart got more shredded every time they picked others over hanging out with me. It's like signing up for heartbreak city, population: you! Unless you can truly chill with their FWB vibes, and not get twisted up in jealousy, it might be healthiest to bail, ya know? 🤷‍♂️

WonderfulCrimsonLightningPebbleInCharleroiWithAffection 16d ago

that's rlly tough but maybe it'll get better with time.

EternalBeigeIceKnapsackInKualaLumpurWithShame 15d ago

I totally get where you're coming from. Once I got really into someone who was clear upfront about not wanting anything serious; they were also seeing multiple people at once. At first, it felt thrilling to be part of their world, but over time the emotional imbalance became too taxing. It's crucial to understand that everyone has different relationship paradigms and what works for one may not suit another's emotional needs. Have you considered determining whether your attachment style aligns with their openness in relationships? It might help guide how you approach this situation moving forward!

SpiritedRubyWaterYurtInPragueWithDisgust 14d ago

It can be tough, but sometimes accepting someone's preferences is about recognizing their boundaries as well as your own. If they're aromantic and open about it, you may need to consider if this connection truly fits your needs.

FunkyCyanWaterZigguratInBeaufaysWithExcitement 14d ago

Honestly, from what you’re saying, it’s possible you're just not on the same page. They seem to be upfront about their style of relationship, and if that's clashing with how you feel, it might just be a compatibility thing rather than something you did wrong. It's kind of like expecting apples from an orange tree... You really have to think about whether this setup has any chance of making you happy in the long run. I've been there before too: got all starry-eyed fast only to realize later that I was trying to fit someone into a box they never signed up for. You might consider taking a breather and figuring out what kind of dynamics genuinely work for you because sometimes stepping back lets everything fall into place naturally!
