why do i feel like crying but can't?
The story
Hey guys. So I'm 19 and my boyfriend of 3 months just broke up with me. I know it doesn't seem like a long time, but it still hurts, ya know? I feel this weird urge to cry almost every day now😭 but the tears don't actually come out! It's like my emotions are stuck or something?? It's frustrating!!! Ugh.
I'm trying to stay positive and keep myself busy, but there's still that lingering feeling in my chest, wanting to burst into tears for no apparent reason. It's not even about missing him at this point. Maybe it's just all the changes happening in my life that is overwhelming? Or maybe I'm just being overdramatic😅
Anyway, I'm really frustrated with not being able to properly express how I feel. Everyone keeps telling me things will get better eventually... and while I believe them, right now it feels like such a struggle. Everything feels kinda dull... nothing seems fun anymore, you know what I mean?
But hey, deep down I know I gotta keep looking forward because that's what life's about...keeping on through the rough patches until you find your smile again😊 So here's hoping that moment comes soon.

Hang in there; it's crazy how breakups mess with your emotions like that, right?
maybe ur tired
Could be! Get some rest?
yo, i get it. breakups can mess with your head more than you'd think. 3 months might not be long, but emotions don't really care about time, do they? it's tough when you can't even cry properly... like all those feelings just bottling up inside. maybe try changing things up a bit to shake off that dullness, you know? pick up a new hobby or something just to shift your focus and give yourself a break from all the overthinking. you'll find that fun vibe again soon enough! hang in there 😊
Hey there, I totally get why you’d feel all twisted up inside. Three months might not sound like forever on paper, but emotions don’t exactly follow a timeline. It's interesting how sometimes the real bummer isn't even about missing the person specifically, but more so dealing with that sudden shift in your daily norm, ya know? I've been through breakups myself and can relate to that sensation of everything going gray for a bit; kinda like being in a funk where nothing seems right.
I wouldn't say you're being overdramatic at all; it’s natural to feel this way when you go through changes. What helped me once was finding something new to dive into (a hobby or getting lost in some binge-worthy series) not as a distraction, but as something that genuinely brings joy back into your routine. Anyway, hang tight! It does get better eventually, and one day you'll look back at this as just another bump on life's road trip.
man, that totally sucks and it's like your heart's stuck in neutral when you wanna feel full speed.
Sometimes feelings are complicated.
hey, it's completely okay to feel frustrated and stuck with your emotions like that, especially after a breakup. three months is enough time to form a bond and even if you’re not missing him exactly, big changes can definitely tilt your emotional balance. sounds like you're in a bit of an emotional limbo where you can't cry it out or fully move on; sometimes pushing yourself to feel something makes it even more elusive! try not to put too much pressure on finding joy immediately...sometimes these things take longer than expected and that's alright. you're doing the best you can by keeping busy and looking forward!🤔
honestly, i think it's weird how we get stuck in our own heads about this stuff. society drills into us that breakups are supposed to be these big dramatic events, but sometimes it's really just all the little changes stacking up. at 19, hell, everything feels like the end of the world for a hot minute. one thing that worked for me was writing down my thoughts, even if it felt stupid; turning those abstract feelings into words can be pretty cathartic. give it a shot... maybe it'll help clear some of that emotional fog you're dealing with!
Hey, could it be that the feeling stuck without being able to cry is about something deeper than just the breakup?
hey, i totally get where you're coming from. it's amazing how such a short time can imprint deeply on us. sometimes the hardest part is not the breakup itself but adjusting to that shift in your life narrative; feeling stuck emotionally might just be your mind processing everything. when i've felt similar, i tried channeling those emotions into something creative, like writing or drawing. it didn't fix things overnight, but it definitely helped me understand and express myself better; here's hoping you find a way to navigate through this phase soon 🍀
I hate to break it to you, but three months isn't exactly long-term investing in emotions there. It's hardly a blip on the relationship radar. Most people have longer commitments with their gym memberships, honestly. And about this whole 'feeling stuck' thing and not crying? Join the club! Emotions don’t always just burst out on cue. Sounds like you're expecting your life to be some grand drama where tears flow as soon as heartbreak hits. Newsflash: it's not, and most of us feel like we're trudging through wet cement until something sparks joy again. Shake it off, kiddo, because life rarely gives you dramatic pause breaks for crying scenes.
i remember when i was nineteen too and things felt intense for sure.. hang in there it'll pass eventually.
Thank you!! Means a lot hearing that from someone who gets it😊
