How can I illustrate a poem?

I’m doing an exchange with a poet, I’ll be taking some classes with her and I’ll be illustrating her last poetry book. So I’m fucking excited for it so I was wondering if anyone have some recs to really capture the soul of the book. I’m truly excited for this achievement and I was having like this schedule, maybe the first time that I’m reading it I’ll be writing just how it makes me feel and then with those basic words I can start building something of it. It’s the first time that I’m doing something like that and I’m truly happy for it.
