The story

(I'm a teen female) Once a month, we have these small mental health sessions where the same guidance counselor comes in to discuss a mental health topic. Today, she talked about anxiety, and it literally made me realize I have been having mini panic attacks. Like whenever I'm called on, even if I was raising my hand, I will burn up and I feel so anxious and like I'm about to literally explode. Like the heating up starts from my chest and goes almost all the way up. I thought I was just nervous but I guess not. Also I did not say anything about this to the counselor because Iliterally did not want to say any of that in front of people. I probably will another day because I meet her every Monday.

hey, totally get where you're coming from, but like, isn't everybody kinda nervous when called on in class? 🧐 i mean, it might not always be full-blown anxiety; sometimes it's just, you know, the regular nerves kickin' in, like the "butterflies in the stomach" kinda deal. plus, it's kinda common to feel super awkward talking about personal stuff right in front of everyone else; why not try writing it down or something first? did you ever think about maybe chatting with a friend too, like someone who really gets you, before makin' it an official thing with the counselor?

absolutely understand what you're saying; those experiences definitely resonate with the psychological phenomena of anxiety disorders, which are widely discussed in clinical literature 😊 it seems like your description aligns with common symptoms, as the "heating up" sensation is often indicative of an autonomic nervous system response; and your decision to refrain from sharing in a group setting, that's totally valid, given the potential for social anxiety influences; referencing cognitive-behavioral strategies might be beneficial in navigating these experiences, providing "empirical evidence" for structured coping mechanisms; acknowledging such episodes is a critical first step in addressing them, and your proactive approach sounds promising; perhaps, in a more private discussion with the counselor, you'll find the individualized guidance you're seeking.

i hear you, but honestly, it might just be that typical school stress🤔 sometimes it feels like everyone’s going through the same stuff but we think it’s just us, you know what i mean? i remember freaking out whenever the teacher called on me too, probably just cause i'm naturally anxious; maybe it’s not full-on panic attacks though. i mean, it’s normal to get a little freaked out in the moment, especially when you’re caught off guard, but it usually passes once you start talking. have you tried talking about it with friends first? sometimes just hearing that others feel the same can be super calming and make things seem less intense.

no, I mean like when I even raise my hand and I burn up and I forgot to mention this but my eyes fill with tears, this happens so often the I started wearing a hat so people couldn't see i was literally crying even though I raised my hand, or when we were playing this thing on our computers called "write it" or something like that and when my story thing got picked the same thing happened but so much worse, like i had to leave to the bathroom to calm myself down.
