What the hell is wrong with me?
The story
I was given my dream life, family, house, car, kids, grandkid. My husband is wonderful. But I get it in my head that when something goes wrong everything has to. I feel like I'm supposed to implode. I've cheated, multiple times, had an affair, wanted to get a divorce. Then worked out a bit with my husband. We moved, and last week life happened where it got hard and BAM, I cheated when he was drunk asleep in our bed...again. What am I doing wrong? That I think that's okay in the moment? Why do I put him through this and the tests, the endless conversations of me getting better in therapy. But I don't...what's going on. I want to stop but it's become a destructive thing to me.

it's wild how sometimes we self-sabotage even when everything seems perfect; kinda like we're testing if things can really be that good or if they'll break. maybe it's the thrill of chaos? just remember, therapy is a step, but actually putting in the work and being honest with yourself is crucial to stop this cycle 🙃
totally agree!!! it's really something how we sometimes sabotage ourselves, even when things seem to be going just fine. like, are we just testing the limits to see if our lives will hold up or fall apart? could be that thrill of chaos, right? it’s almost as if there's some part of us that craves the risk and unpredictability, just to shake things up when they feel too settled or predictable. therapy is definitely a crucial first step in understanding these patterns, but, let's be real, the actual work comes from facing them head-on and being super honest with ourselves and our partners.
i mean, can you really stop this cycle without putting in that effort? it takes more than just showing up at therapy sessions; it requires real dedication to unpacking those deeply ingrained behaviors and being willing to shift them. so yeah, while it's incredibly important to acknowledge the role therapy plays in our healing process, it's also vital to continuously commit to the work outside those therapy walls. this is where things start to change, where we stop the cycle by rewriting the script we've been living by. 💪
Wow, it's amazing how some people seem to have everything yet find a way to blow it up; listen, maybe you just like living on the edge too much? It's like playing with fire and wondering why you're getting burned. Ever think about focusing less on finding what's wrong and more on actually appreciating what you've got before it’s gone? That might help...
wow same here constantly thinking i screw up everything driving me nuts. my ex cheated on me and i ended up cheating too like a dumb cycle. gotta break it i guess.
breakin cycles is sooo hard ugh
Damn, that's a rough spot to be in. Honestly feels like you might be caught in some kind of self-sabotage loop, right? Like, you've got it all on paper, but something inside is pushing you to mess it up. Maybe it's that thrill of chaos or a way to deal with emotions you're not addressing through therapy; it's tricky as hell. It's wild how the mind works like that...making life harder when it's dysfunctional comfort; do you think there might be deeper issues from before all this perfect picture stuff seemed real that need attention? I mean, I'm no shrink and wouldn't dare pretend to give advice but I'd reckon digging deeper into why "perfect" makes you wanna rebel would help untangle whatever's driving these decisions.
self-sabotage is a real tricky beast honestly; maybe deep down you're more afraid of stability than you realize, like some internal script keeps telling you that chaos is what you're meant for; it feels like therapy isn't just the answer but changing those thought patterns would help too.
sounds like you're stuck in a loop of self-destructive habits, trying to answer why it's hard for you to accept the good things without starting drama. do you ever wonder if there's a part of you that feels undeserving of the happiness you've got? sometimes we sabotage happiness because we're used to chaos and don't know how to handle stability; it's almost like your comfort zone is discomfort, right? maybe ask yourself what makes you feel alive and whether this cycle is really satisfying or just familiar.
ur just making more drama geez.
You know, I've been there where it feels like you're almost addicted to the drama or chaos of it all. Like things get too quiet and you feel this weird pull to shake things up even though you know it's gonna end badly. Crazy how that works, huh?? Maybe it's not just self-sabotage but something deeper that makes you crave those intense moments; Do you remember feeling like this when life was less "perfect"? It might be worth exploring what those moments give you emotionally compared to the everyday stability you've worked hard for.
sounds like you're stuck in a cycle where chaos feels more familiar than calm, yeah? ever stop and think if it's about control? like, causing drama might give you a weird sense of power over the situation, even if it hurts. sometimes when we can't handle the idea of something good ending naturally, we end it ourselves to be in charge. therapy is great and all, but maybe lean into figuring out what scares you about peace and stability... who knows, could open some doors to understanding why calm feels so threatening 👀 asking those tough questions might be a game changer for breaking that pattern.
It's tough, but could it be that there's something about vulnerability or intimacy that's triggering this cycle for you? I mean, having everything "perfect" on the surface might make even small imperfections feel like a disaster. Sometimes we crave change and upheaval because it's easier to start anew than fix what's broken; maybe explore what emotions come up when things seem too stable? Personally, I've noticed in my own life that running from hard feelings is often more about me than the people around me, so I wonder if diving into those uncomfortable moments instead of avoiding them might help...
damn, it sounds like you're caught in this cycle 'cause there's maybe a part of you that's seeking adrenaline kicks or thrives on the thrill of the unexpected...but have you ever thought about whether it's all just boredom wearing a different mask??? like when things are comfortable and predictable do you kinda itch for that uncertainty just to feel alive? sometimes people say if life's too perfect they think they're stuck in some kind of simulation or bubble haha...if it's not fear of happiness but maybe dullness sneaking in, could there be ways to bring excitement without nuking what you've got? idk man; relationships can get mad routine and make anyone stir crazy.
It sounds like you're grappling with an internal conflict between the life you have built and some underlying need for something more unpredictable or intense. Sometimes people develop a kind of paradoxical comfort in environments that are less than ideal because that's what they're used to, or perhaps there's an aspect of your personality that needs high-stakes situations to feel engaged. Have you ever thought about exploring other outlets where you could channel this desire for intensity without compromising your relationships? Like, maybe some form of recreational activity or hobby that can offer excitement but is constructive rather than destructive; it might help balance things out so the chaos doesn't spill into the parts of life you genuinely care about.
when you've got everything you ever wanted, it can be weirdly unsettling. like there's this pressure to live up to the "perfect" life image and when things ain't perfect 24/7, it's almost easier to create chaos as a distraction; sometimes it's not about wanting something different but just escaping from what feels too good to be true. i've noticed with myself that when things are going great, i start questioning when it'll all fall apart. maybe you're doing that in your own way? ask yourself if there's something deep down where trust might be an issue: not just with others, but with trusting happiness itself; could be why you keep trippin' on these patterns.
It's kind of strange how when things seem perfect something inside makes you self-destruct. Maybe it's fear of happiness or messing up the good stuff because it feels too unfamiliar to really trust it? Sometimes I wonder if people just don't know how to handle peace, so they cause chaos instead.
yeah i feel this maybe it's subconcious
ever consider if it's just a fear of losing your identity buried under all these "perfect" roles??? like being a wife, mom, grandma can be suffocating and maybe straying is your way of reclaiming some autonomy? i mean sometimes people feel trapped in what others expect them to be and act out just to feel seen as their true selves. has focusing on *you* outside those roles ever been part of the therapy gig? figuring out what genuinely defines you besides family might help break the cycle... or am i way off base here???
