The story

dating someone with depression is like walking a tightrope. on one side, there's the constant worry about their well-being and on the other side, you're trying to keep yourself from going under too. it's tough when they're feeling low and you're their rock because it feels like you can't have a bad day without feeling guilty about it. I've noticed my own mental health taking hits more often lately (it's like carrying extra baggage I didn't sign up for). what's worse? you think of stepping back just to take a breather and BAM! guilt smacks you right in the face!! they lean on you so hard that imagining even pulling away a little feels wrong... but damn, how can i keep pouring from an empty cup?? sometimes i feel like i'm drowning in this sea of sadness, constantly gasping for air while pretending everything's okay.

dealing with this has been rough. nights are just longer now, sleep barely comes... lying there next to them listening to their endless sighs, feeling the weight of every unvoiced thought pressing down on both of us. it's maddening!!! being their confidant means hearing all the nitty-gritty details about faces they don't show the world, the raw pain that seeps into conversations outta nowhere. makes me wonder if i signed up for this or if love blindsided me (probably the latter). guilt is such a tricky SOB in these scenarios; whenever i edge towards putting myself first (even just THINKING it) there's an automatic backlash inside my head saying 'nope! go back to being supportive', 'they need you more'.

sometimes wish talking would solve everything but it's not magic sprinkles!!! tried convincing them therapy might help... met with a shrug or outright dismissal half the time though. felt like banging my head against a wall honestly... depression's nasty grip won't loosen no matter how many logical arguments get thrown at it apparently. man! seeing someone you care about sink deeper and deeper while you're helplessly standing by sucks big time!!! every hug offered seems so insignificant compared to what they're battling internally.

in moments when frustration peaks (when thinking becomes overbearing), contemplating whether stepping aside temporarily's warranted crosses mind... yet here comes creepin’ mr guilt again whispering sweet little accusations: ‘you’re selfish' or ‘you're abandoning ship’. sometimes wonder if keeping quiet hurts less than confronting this mess straight-on... but then again ***holding everything inside turns people brittle*** eventually (been there done that, kidding myself doesn't work anymore). juggling supporting them AND maintaining sanity might sound easy peasy written down somewhere but lemme tell ya reality bites differently!!!! questioning how long can one continue giving without taking never-ending toll emotionally looms large overhead daily.
