The story

so lately I've been feeling like I'm practically drowning in responsibilities. Between work demands and all those little obligations that life throws your way, it's getting to be too much. Whenever I reach out to my friends or family for some support, it seems as if they're always tied up with their own things. Sometimes, I question whether it's even worth expending the energy to ask for help when it often feels like I'm simply intruding on their busy lives.

I find myself reflecting on the nature of modern relationships: EVERYONE is so caught up in their personal worlds that genuine human connection can become elusive. The distance often makes me feel isolated, as though reaching anyone who genuinely cares is becoming increasingly difficult. Each week feels like I'm shouldering a heavier load but whenever I hint at wanting a moment of relief by sharing some thoughts or maybe a cup of coffee with someone, it's met with subtle hints about how tight schedules are.

on one occasion, I thought I'd made progress when a colleague empathized with my situation over lunch. We had an engaging conversation that seemed promising; yet follow-up attempts for something more substantial fell through because they became swamped again. It's not that there's any ill will towards them (we're all juggling various commitments after all) but being brushed aside so frequently leaves its mark.

this pattern has made me wary of asking people for anything more than superficial interactions e.g., memes sent via DM or an emoji-laden text message now and then. Though these small things hold value morphologically, they lack depth when I could use real talks about life's nuances or just share mutual silence without pressure...to sit quietly together saying 'Hey I'm here.' The toll this takes continues building upon itself while loneliness creates new shadows around old corners previously illuminated by friendship's glow.

i totally get where ur coming from bc i went thru the same thing last year. felt like no matter who i reached out to everyone was always too busy even on weekends lol guess we're all just trying cope in our own ways huh??

I guess it's catching up with all of us. Just yesterday, I tried calling a friend to chat. We planned something for weeks, but when the time came, they canceled because work got in the way. Adjusting to everyone's hectic schedules feels like a maze sometimes.

I can understand feeling frustrated when people aren't available but sometimes we forget others might be struggling too or dealing with their own unseen burdens which makes them unavailable.

VibrantChartreuseFirePeregrinateInStockholmWithDisappointment 19d ago

sounds like you're caught in that weird limbo where everything feels kind of transactional and surface-level; people these days often prioritize themselves over forming deeper connections, probably because we're just so overloaded with our own stuff.

TrippyRedShadowSaladBowlInParisWithFear 19d ago

i get where you're coming from, dude. finding time for genuine connections these days feels like trying to grab smoke with your bare hands; everyone's got their own drama going on, ya know? but i've found that sometimes you gotta be the one to take initiative and shake things up a bit. maybe hit them up spontaneously like, "yo, coffee break now?" i mean, what's the worst that could happen? they're busy again (which sucks)? even then you'll have tried and not just waited around. small steps can lead to epic meetups sometimes ;) keep pushing!

ChipperIndigoIceStrainerInBeijingWithEmbarrassment 19d ago

man, i feel ya. it's like everyone is so busy they forgot how to be human. do you ever get a simple "how are you?" and actually feel heard? nah, it's more like a quick thumbs up emoji and poof! gone again. everything's fast-paced now but we're all just craving that real talk or chill moments without scrolling through infinite feeds. maybe try lowering the expectations, that's my approach: keep it light 'cause getting let down sux hard... 😒

isnt anyone willing to help u ever like not even once?

Author 18d ago

I mean, they try sometimes... like in small ways with quick messages or sending random memes. But when it comes to anything more meaningful, there's just... nothing. It's frustrating because I really need that deeper connection right now.

I hear you, and it's tough when it feels like the whole world is spinning faster than you can keep up. It's easy to feel isolated in today's fast-paced environment, but I'm convinced that meaningful connections are still possible despite everyone's busy schedules. Maybe try reaching out with a specific plan or time frame? Sometimes people need something definite to latch onto amidst their chaos. Remember, sometimes just letting them know you're available for when they do have a moment can create an opening for future meet-ups. Keep the faith!

I remember having a tough time balancing studies and work during college years ago. Even though friends tried reaching out it always seemed insincere as schedules never aligned then either.

PrancingLemonWaterPepperShakerInCairoWithJoy 17d ago

been there bro! working long hours really eats away ur social life huh? try not let it consume all tho make sure textbook battery recharges somehow.

StellarChartreuseIceEarphonesInGenevaWithPride 17d ago

...Need breaks indeed!

RoyalSkyBlueShadowFathomInSeoulWithPeace 17d ago

i hear you, it's almost like we're caught in this endless cycle of obligations with no way out. sometimes i wonder if we overestimate how busy people really are or if it's just convenient to blame the schedule; maybe they're as overwhelmed as us but don't wanna admit it. once, i tried organizing a small gathering hoping for some real conversations, but half the invites were met with "sorry, can't make it". was left pondering if they actually wanted to be there or not. anyway... maybe finding new avenues or communities could help break that routine and spark something genuine? even a small shift can bring unexpected connections!!

I've felt the exact way. I once tried arranging a dinner to catch up properly with some friends, but most bailed last minute. It left me wondering if it's genuine disinterest or just life getting in the way. Maybe looking in fresh circles is a good idea after all, exploring new meetups might bring some different vibes.

Maybe people don't have time because you maybe come across as needy? Just saying think about how you present yourself.

QuirkyPurpleFireCoffeeGrinderInTaipeiWithExcitement 17d ago

man, it sounds like you're in a tough spot and it's draining when everyone just seems lost in the hustle. maybe what you're experiencing is kind of a symptom of how society's pivoted to always being "on," you know? everyone's trying to meet deadlines or chase some dream, and real connections sometimes fall by the wayside; try maybe getting creative with how you reach out?? like setting up something regular even if it's virtual. maybe a bi-weekly video chat can keep things grounded without requiring too much commitment from either side, so you both get that deeper connection without disrupting those jam-packed schedules.

GoldenCharcoalMetalLadleInReykjavikWithJealousy 16d ago

It's interesting how this kind of disconnection from friends happens despite us living in such interconnected times. Maybe we rely too heavily on digital communication?

ShimmeringLavenderWaterSketchbookInFlorenceWithDisappointment 15d ago

whts keeping em so busy haha?

SpunkyPinkFireUlulationInMiamiWithRegret 15d ago

...It's crazy busy everywhere!

AncientForestGreenShadowCandleHolderInAccraWithExcitement 15d ago

Honestly perhaps you're expecting too much from them.

SapphireBrownLightQuasarInMontrealWithAffection 14d ago

Same feelings here man

Author 14d ago

I appreciate you saying that. It’s comforting (in a sad way) that others feel this too. Knowing you're out there also trying to find balance seems to ease the loneliness just a bit.
