The story

moving to a new city has been an overwhelming experience for me. surrounded by strangers, everything felt unfamiliar and intimidating. I spent the first few weeks struggling to find my footing. it's not easy, you know? but then something unexpected happened! i met someone at a local cafe who shares my obscure hobby, vintage typewriter collecting!!!! we struck up a conversation that felt so natural, almost like we had known each other forever. can you believe it?! finally, someone who understands the excitement of discovering a rare Remington model.

at first, i was hesitant to open up about my interests because let's face it, not everyone gets the allure of old machines that clack and ding; yet here was this person nodding enthusiastically as i rambled on about ribbon spools and platen rollers. they even quoted from an article i'd read recently! instantly, there was this sense of connection that i've missed since moving here.

we spent hours sharing stories about our collections and restoration projects. turns out they're also part of an online forum i've visited multiple times! we talked shop in such detail that anyone overhearing us would probably think we're speaking another language!!! but there was comfort in knowing i'm not alone in my passion.

meeting them reminded me that amidst all the chaos and isolation, there's always potential for unexpected friendships if i open myself up to opportunities. i'm grateful for that chance encounter which turned into something more meaningful than just small talk at a cafe.

nowadays, we hang out regularly, checking out antique shops or swapping tips on finding hard-to-come-by parts. it feels good to have someone to share this journey with... no more feeling like a stranger in this big city. life can surprise you when you're least expecting it!
