The story

it really hurts when someone you care about brushes off your feelings like they don’t matter. I finally work up the courage to share what’s on my mind, exposing my vulnerabilities, only to have them respond casually with a comment that feels dismissive. in those moments, I can’t help but question whether it’s even worth sharing my emotions at all. this isn’t just a one-off occurrence; it’s becoming a pattern in my relationships. I see it popping up again and again, creating more cracks than connections.

sometimes I wonder if these reactions stem from deeper issues in our relationship. maybe it’s a sign that they struggle to reciprocate the emotional labor that goes into meaningful conversations. it’s frustrating because the casual dismissal feels like a blow to my self-worth. I know that emotional acknowledgment is important, yet when it’s met with indifference, it leaves a residue that affects how I interact with others down the line.

it’s no surprise that relationships are complex and layered. I’d expect a little more empathy from those trained in fields that emphasize communication. yet, when I compare them to friends in more analytical fields, it seems like I’m dealing with a different language altogether. opening up to someone who isn’t equipped to handle those emotions can feel like a risk. should we try to adapt our ways of communicating beyond what we’ve learned? every time I share something personal, I feel like I’m taking a leap, and being met with a lack of understanding makes it hard to keep trying.

I think it’s essential to have deeper conversations about our emotions. it’s frustrating that these common missteps seem to be universally experienced, yet they still lead to misunderstanding. my own responses can become jaded, which just adds to the tension. I find myself in a cycle of uncertainty, wrestling with feelings of being undervalued while trying to express my needs. it’s tough when it feels like the effort to communicate is met with silence or a shrug. I want to break this pattern, but it’s hard when I’m constantly facing these shallow exchanges. I just want to be heard and understood, and instead, I often feel invisible.
