The story

okay, i gotta spill the beans here... i'm totally fed up with the way i look!!! it's like every time i scroll through insta or any social media, bam! these perfect pics are slapping me in the face. honestly, how do people ALWAYS manage to look so flawless??? and yeah, i've heard it all before from my fam and friends: "looks aren't everything" or "it's what's inside that counts" blah blah blah. but like seriously? how am i supposed to just ignore it when i've got mirrors all over my house practically screaming at me that i'm not measuring up? sometimes i feel like my reflection is mocking me, you know?

i remember this one time back in high school when a friend snapped a pic of us and posted it without all those filters and fancy stuff. i thought i looked so bleh that day; everyone else was shining in their own way. it kinda became this thing where i started avoiding random photos altogether unless i knew for sure it was gonna go through my editing first. is that weird? maybe justifiable? who knows!! another thing... why does my phone have to pop up with those #nofilter challenges? isn't life tough enough already??? seeing folks pulling off stunning shots without any touch-ups gets to me big time! i start wondering if they woke up looking camera-ready or what. meanwhile, there's me trying to hide behind filters like they're a lifesaver... ugh, this whole thing sucks.

hey there! so curious about your thoughts on how these filtered images affect us... but have you considered stepping away from social media for a while? maybe take a break and see if it helps clear up those negative vibes.

That's great advice!

i get what you're saying about taking a break. maybe i should give it a shot. it's just hard when everything's so connected online these days, you know? like fomo is real! but yeah, might be worth trying to reset my brain a bit.

I used to think the same way until I decided to stop following accounts that made me feel worse about myself. It actually helped boost my confidence a bit!

yeah, good point! i'll try doing that too 🙂

hey, i totally get what you're saying!!! it's so easy to feel overwhelmed when social media bombards you with those perfect shots. like seriously, can't scroll for a second without feeling inadequate sometimes. but let's be real... so much of that stuff is orchestrated and edited too, yet we forget and think it's all natural. everyone faces insecurities even if they don’t show it. maybe it's not so weird wanting your pics edited first, right? just part of how we cope in this crazy filtered world!

Ever consider that maybe those people don't look so flawless 24/7? Filters, angles, lighting... they're basically like a magician's tricks. Ever tried taking photos with good lighting or when you're actually feeling yourself? Not saying it's easy to ignore the insta-perfect world but remember: everyone can edit their life to seem way better than it is! And that #nofilter stuff...who even believes that nonsense?! I mean, life's more than just a pretty pic.

It's fascinating how pervasive these feelings can become, isn't it? The ubiquity of curated images on social media undeniably perpetuates a culture where the artificial becomes perceived as the standard. Remember, behind each pristine photograph often lies meticulous effort: careful lighting, strategic angles, and sometimes extensive digital manipulation. Personally speaking, I've found solace in pursuing hobbies outside this realm to cultivate self-acceptance (it gives me something authentic to lean into). When I took up painting, it allowed me to focus on beauty in imperfection rather than striving for an unattainable ideal; it's also gratifying to realize that everyone's definition of "flawless" essentially varies. Perhaps engaging in creative outlets could offer you a perspective shift amidst this landscape.

Just stop using filters...

Man, I totally get where you're coming from with the whole insta-perfect world. It's like everyone around us always seems to be photo-ready, right? And when you're scrolling and having a bad day, it for sure feels like the universe is personally out to remind you about it! Honestly though, do you think those people might just be faking it till they make it too? Like maybe we're all doing that weird dance of wanting to look good and just pretending we have it together... I've been finding myself wondering sometimes if anyone else ever has these moments in front of a mirror like "who's really winning here?" Have you tried experimenting with your own style or something that makes you feel like gloating 'cause at least that's some fun time spent being creative!

ugh, i feel you so much!!! those insta pics can seriously mess with your head; it's like everyone else is living in a different reality. 🤯 honestly, sometimes i think people don't even look like that in real life... it's all angles and lighting tricks. i've been there too, convinced my reflection was plotting against me lol. man, if mirrors had an off switch, i'd use it daily! we kinda gotta remind ourselves everyone has insecurities hidden behind those filters; no one's as perfect as they seem!

Maybe you could try focusing on the positive aspects of yourself instead.

It sounds like you're caught up in the comparison trap: social media can be ruthless for that! Have you ever thought about getting into photography yourself? It might sound a bit offbeat, but learning the ropes could give you some insights into staging and filtering those "perfect" shots; maybe it'll help demystify them a bit? Plus, when you start taking photos of things you truly enjoy or find beautiful, it shifts your focus to creating rather than critiquing, which can be really refreshing... What do you think about giving that a shot?

AncientIndigoFireConflagrationInAmsterdamWithHope 15d ago

idk, man... if everyone feels pressure from these perfect photos online then maybe it's more common than we think.

Author 15d ago

"pressure" sums it up perfectly!!!

I definitely get why you're feeling this way with all the picture-perfect images we see daily online. However, try remembering that most aren't real depictions of everyday life... they are curated moments designed to impress!!
