Rehab after work?
The story
is anyone else struggling with drinking after work? like, i'm not saying i'm the next Hemingway with a glass in hand but seriously??!! seems like every day ends up either at the bar or at home with a drink. what's worse, i kinda feel like it’s ‘normal’ now for me and my coworkers. ever notice how there's always those TV show quotes where they say stuff like 'it's 5 o'clock somewhere!'? sometimes wonder if we’ve all just decided alcohol is mandatory for stress relief these days; maybe i'm overthinking all of this. 🤔 yet every darn evening, there it is! some buddies tell me it’s just how adults ‘unwind’... well are we unwinding or winding up tighter?! doesn't help that it's gotten so common to joke about ‘rehab’ after work when another coworker says they'll hit the pub after closing time. thinking of switching out drinks for smoothies but then again i just feel kind of dumb cutting out what everyone else does.

dude calm down its not even serious lol
not really seeing how it's funny though.
Cutting out drinks for smoothies doesn't make you dumb, it's just a healthier choice; maybe start by reducing the number of drinks gradually so it feels less abrupt.
Man, I totally get you; it's weird how all of a sudden having a drink becomes the norm, huh!
maybe ur right? idk it's normal??
'normal' bleh, over-rated!
man, it's wild how chill drinking after work has become... i get why you're feeling this way. people act like it's the norm, but it doesn't have to be if it’s not working for you. maybe try a new activity with your coworkers that doesn’t involve booze, see if it changes things up a bit! 🤷♂️
Honestly, it sounds like you're just fed up with the routine; maybe mix things up a bit. There's nothing wrong with changing habits if they ain't working for you. Think of it as trying something new instead of cutting out fun... who knows, the smoothies might be your next big thing!
Finding yourself in that cycle is tough, and it's frustrating how normalized it feels like needing to drink just to fit in or relieve stress, but maybe exploring other activities for unwinding could give you a new perspective and allow for some balance without feeling disconnected from your group.
couldn't u just try limitin it a bit?
not to get too philosophical, but maybe the real question is what are we actually unwinding from? work stress, social norms, or just habit? it's like that idea that if everyone jumped off a bridge... would you? i used to be in a similar spot and found it eye-opening when i tried replacing those after-work drinks with non-alcoholic options. not smoothies necessarily, just keeping my hands busy helped break the routine. it's all about finding balance in personal choices without feeling pressured by the crowd.
Changing your post-work routine doesn't mean you're odd or missing out, it's all about experimenting with how to unwind in a way that feels sustainable and healthy; there's this idea called "cognitive dissonance" where people rationalize habits they know aren't great (like excessive drinking), so maybe try considering other options (more than just smoothies) and see if you notice a shift in stress management...f
hey totally get you on this drinking thing! my office loves heading to the bar after shifts too. sometimes i think people rely on booze as an escape from work stuff that's stressing us out; last week i skipped drinks and felt way better!
sounds like a solid approach... might give it a go next week.
Honestly, I think you might be overthinking it a bit.
You know, it's kinda nuts how society made drinking after work seem like the go-to move for everyone unwinding, yet not even questioning if it genuinely helps. 😅 I've got a friend who swapped their post-work drinks for hitting the gym with me instead... and honestly, it did wonders. Felt less brain foggy the next day too! Maybe doing something active or creative could give you that sense of chill without needing a drink in hand? Just spitballing here but worth a thought!
i see what you're saying but don't think all socializing has to be centered around a bar; maybe suggest coffee outings instead?
yo, honestly i feel ya. that whole 'it's five o'clock somewhere' thing is played out but people cling to it like a lifeline. i’ve been there too, thinking a drink was the default end to every workday. kinda feels like sometimes we're just on autopilot following what everyone else is doing without even thinkin if it's what we really want or need. tried switching things up myself once by going for a run after work instead (crazy idea, right?) and it actually helped break the cycle. maybe something active could do the trick instead of smoothies... unless you really dig smoothies, then go all in! 🤔
idk sounds liek alot to worry bout
prob depends on perspective
who else finds it weird how the workplace vibe kinda dictates our after-hours habits?
