Stop thinking

The story

I'm writing here today because I can't help but feel completely overwhelmed by my own thoughts. Each minor decision seems to consume me, leaving me paralyzed and unable to function effectively. Whether it's deciding what clothes to wear for the day or picking something from a menu, I find myself entrenched in an endless loop of analytical thinking. This constant state of rumination makes even the simplest tasks feel insurmountable.

I often wonder why this has become such a significant issue in my life. Rationally, I understand that these decisions are routine, yet somehow they seem monumental at times. The sensation of being held hostage by my thoughts can be intensely frustrating and demoralizing; it feels as if I'm wading through mental quicksand, with no way out.

I remember once standing in front of the pantry trying to decide on breakfast for what seemed like an eternity. 🍽️ My mind was weighing every possibility (caloric content, nutritional balance, taste preference...) but in the end, it was just breakfast. This kind of overthinking seems to seep into every aspect of my daily life, exhausting my mental bandwidth and making it difficult to focus on anything else.

At work, I find myself caught up in pondering multiple outcomes before making even simple decisions... This prevents efficient task completion and has made workplace environments more challenging due to decreased productivity levels. Venting here is perhaps an attempt at breaking free from these oppressive cognitive patterns or merely sharing a concern that's been growing steadily worse; either way, maybe just putting words to it helps lessen its grip.

I totally get this! I've had moments where choosing between two shirts felt like a major ordeal.
