tingling in hands and feet anxiety

The story

I used to think I could keep my cool in stressful situations, but starting this new job has turned that idea upside down. The place is like a tornado of chaos, and while I kind of thrive in that whirlwind, it’s also got my brain racing like I’m in a car chase. Deadlines are looming like ominous clouds, and the expectations? They feel like they’re on another planet. So here I am, sitting in meetings or giving presentations, and suddenly my hands and feet decide they want to tingle like they've just run a marathon. What even is that?

Last week, during a presentation where I felt like the weight of the world was on my shoulders, the tingling came crashing in like an unwelcome party crasher, bringing along its buddy, anxiety. It was like my brain and body were engaged in a game of telephone where the message was "disaster is coming!" even though I knew deep down that everything was going to be okay. I started chatting with some coworkers who’ve been through similar craziness, and it turns out this tingling thing is more common than I thought. That doesn’t make it any less annoying though.

I’ve heard from well-meaning colleagues that “anxiety is like letting go of holding onto too tightly.” Yeah, that hits hard right now. So, I’ve been trying to incorporate some mindfulness exercises because apparently those are supposed to help. You know, to keep my nerves from doing their weird dance that I didn’t sign up for. I’m just hoping this whole situation gets a little less chaotic soon. Fingers crossed... or maybe just hoping my hands stop tingling!

This sounds pretty common in high-pressure jobs. Have you considered talking to your manager about adjusting tasks? Sometimes they can help find a balance.

I have thought about talking to my manager, but I worry it might make me seem incapable or overly sensitive. It's a tricky balance to strike, managing what's expected of me and what feels personally sustainable. Maybe I'll build up the courage to bring it up soon.

Dude, I totally feel you on the tingling stuff. It's like your body's just throwing a party without asking. 😂 I used to get that during job interviews and it would drive me nuts. Mindfulness can help but finding something goofy to laugh at always kinda reset my brain too (like stupid cat videos or whatever). Try shaking out your hands and feet, act all weird for a second, sometimes it tricks them into chilling out! Hoping things smooth out soon for ya! 🤞

sounds like a rollercoaster right there but honestly, maybe embracing the chaos or whatever could be your thing. sometimes when everything feels like it's spiraling out of control, riding that wave instead of fighting it might actually help you feel more in tune with all this craziness; kind of like surfing... except without water and surfboards lol. i remember facing something similar at my old job and surprisingly found some calm once I stopped resisting it constantly. just give yourself room to breathe... then see what happens.

man, i totally feel you. the first couple months at a new job are like trying to juggle flaming torches while riding a unicycle on a tightrope, right? sometimes focusing on managing day-to-day stuff instead of worrying about everything all at once can help. have you tried tackling those deadlines with some epic playlists or something fun in your ear? also, what's up with that weird tingling? our bodies really know how to mess with us when we're just trying to do our thing...

man, this sounds way too familiar. when i first started at my job, it felt like a high-stakes poker game where everyone else knew the rules. nerves got to me big time. i remember once during an important client call, my hands decided to freeze up like i was holding ice cubes. embarrassing as hell? absolutely! but practicing some deep breathing helped me regain control a bit. have you given that a shot yet?? might not be everyone's cup of tea, but worth considering if you're not into full-on mindfulness exercises. hoping things ease up for ya!!

Man, I totally get where you're coming from with those wild tingles! It's almost like your body has its own mind, right? One time during a super stressful week at work, I tried popping in some noise-canceling headphones and listening to calming music while taking mini breaks; it seriously helped me chill out a bit. Maybe that could give your brain a breather too. Hope you find some peace soon 🤞

are you ok tho?

Author 17d ago

I'm hanging in there, thanks for asking. It's been a bit overwhelming but I'm trying to find ways to cope and reduce the stress. Small steps forward, right?

TranquilRedShadowPitcherInCairoWithJoy 16d ago

that tingling sounds like it might be your body's way of telling you to slow down a bit. sometimes, pushing through the chaos can make things worse instead of better. maybe try scheduling a short break or two throughout your day just to reset and catch your breath; even a quick walk around the block can work wonders. i know it might feel counterproductive with all those deadlines looming, but taking care of yourself is important too! fingers crossed for smoother sailing ahead 🍀!

Thanks for sharing that. It's reassuring to know someone else has been through this too. Breathing deeply is something I’m definitely going to give more attention, let’s hope it works out! Appreciate the good wishes.

Man, I feel that overwhelming sense of chaos too!! It's like every day starts as a calm sea and suddenly we're in the midst of hurricane season without an umbrella; No joke, my heart starts racing like I'm being chased by something invisible. Experiencing all that tingling feels bizarre but hearing others go through it is weirdly reassuring. Have you tried breaking big tasks into super tiny chunks? Less mountain-climbing and more step-by-step walking, if you know what I mean. Keeps the wave smaller! 🌀

It makes me think about how much pressure our society places on performing well constantly. Isn't it strange how these signals arise? Perhaps they are telling us something important we need to heed.
