The story

okay so i just moved in with this roommate who's super social and always has friends over. it's nice having someone around but man, it's hard when you're trying to keep your boundaries especially dealing with unexpected bouts of horniness 🤦‍♂️ you know it's tough finding time alone. feels awkward sometimes 😅 like they're always there lol

so i'm chill with it usually but these random urges strike and all i want is some privacy. every time i'm about to handle my business somebody's laughing loudly or chatting right outside my door 🙄 makes things difficult to say the least. been trying various tricks now coz I can't imagine saying "yo, i need some space for uh... personal matters" 😂 idk, kinda wish there was an easy solution or tips to like get rid of it without too much hassle! ready for any advice!!!

I totally get where you're coming from. When I had a similar situation, I'd often take longer showers or go on short walks to find some peace and balance myself out. It worked for me.

Well, it's definitely a challenge balancing personal privacy with a roommate who's always entertaining!

dude, i totally feel you on this. maybe, um, get noise-canceling headphones or something? they work wonders when you're in need of some privacy and just want to focus. also, finding a specific time when the place is quieter might help too; like early mornings or late nights if that fits your routine.

AwesomeTealWaterFantodsInSevilleWithFear 18d ago

considering how social your roommate is, maybe playing the game by their rules could work in your favor.

maybe look into some noise-cancelling headphones or a white noise machine for your room??? it can help create a bit of an audio bubble and give you the mental space you need.

That does sound like a tricky situation. Maybe there's a way to subtly hint to your roommate that you'd appreciate some alone time here and there? Could be something as simple as mentioning the need to focus on work or hobbies more intensely lately so they understand the value of personal space.

AncientVioletWaterZephyrineInCharleroiWithSurprise 17d ago

That's a good idea, maybe dropping hints here and there will help!

oh man, that's a tough spot! you ever tried using headphones or blasting some music to drown out the noise? 🤘 might not solve everything but it can help create a mental space for yourself. maybe even investing in like a little white noise machine... does your roommate know about giving personal space during certain hours??? seems like setting some kind of subtle boundaries could help too; good luck navigating this dude!!!

Have you tried setting a schedule with your roommate? Maybe if you guys establish some quiet times, it’ll help. I mean, random urges are not easy to predict but having a bit of alone time might give you the chance to relax. Have you already talked to them about needing some personal space for other things too? 🤔

i get what you're saying, but setting a schedule for "quiet times" feels kinda impossible right now. my roommate and their friends are super spontaneous (like all the time). i haven't talked to them about needing alone time specifically for this issue... guess i'm worried it'll get awkward. maybe i'll bring up general personal space stuff soon though, coz these random moments keep happening 😅

yo, i totally hear ya! having been in a similar setup once, i'd sometimes just pretend to have an "important call" and retreat to my room for some alone time. people tend to respect the phone call thing if you sound serious enough, haha... it's not foolproof but it can buy you a bit of space. another trick that worked is hitting up a local cafe with great wifi; got some "personal work" done there when things got too lively at home. also gives you the occasional coffee break which is always nice...
