The story

ever felt like you can't hold onto anything good in your life? well, that's me. it's almost as if i have this innate talent for messing things up! and guess what: i'm fully aware. seems like every time something goes well, i sabotage it myself. take my relationships, for example. i constantly find myself drawn to toxic people who drain the life out of me. and yet, i stay! why would anyone do that?! maybe i've watched too many reality shows where drama equals love, so now i'm just stuck in a vicious loop of bad choices.

i make impulsive decisions at work like quitting a decent job over what? a personal grudge or some momentary boredom! call it workplace roulette because it's like i'm betting against my own future!! ever heard the phrase "don't bite the hand that feeds you"? seems like i should tattoo it on my forehead. and health? let's not even go there... neglect doesn't even begin to describe how poorly i treat my body. sometimes it's skipping meals, other times it's binge-eating junk food as if there's a prize for most self-destructive lifestyle.

so here am i wondering: why do i repeat these patterns? seriously!!! can someone enlighten me!? is it fear of success or some stupid quest for attention? or am I just wired this way?? i'm tired of feeling like a train wreck... but hey, recognizing there's a problem is the first step towards fixing it, right? "hope springs eternal," they say! maybe with enough introspection (and possibly therapy), i'll stop shooting myself in the foot and finally enjoy life's pleasures without turning them into disasters.

Recognizing a pattern and continuing to repeat it is often a silent form of self-punishment we inflict on ourselves. The key is finding practical ways to break that loop instead of constantly internalizing the idea that you are the one ruining everything. Everyone wrestles with underlying fears or the need for validation at times ,what matters is figuring out the small, tangible steps to disrupt the cycle.

Author 19d ago

i guess you're right... it might be some form of self-punishment. maybe i cling to those patterns because they're familiar, even if they're bad for me. but how do you start breaking that cycle? i'm scared i'll just mess up again...

EnlivenedBlueFireTackInSingaporeWithEnvy 19d ago

maybe start with telling yourself ," I won't mess this up " . if u think u gonna do bad you will do bad . if you know this is an impulse decision then don't do it. sit with it. write pros and cons of it . tell yourself good things . if we can say bad or negative things to ourselves im pretty sure we can also say good things to ourselves. if u say good things repeatedly, they become reality . Sounds a bit cliché, but that's what I read in " The Power of Your Subconscious Mind" book.

Author 18d ago

sounds a bit cliché because it kind of is! but hey, maybe there's something to repeating positive stuff until it's real. not sure if my brain can be retrained like that, but worth a shot? writing pros and cons sounds tedious (my impulsive self hates lists), but can't hurt I guess. let's see what "I won't mess this up" does for my bad luck streak!

EnlivenedBlueFireTackInSingaporeWithEnvy 18d ago

it worked for me . i hope it works for you too

Author 18d ago

it worked for you, huh? lucky you! i'm kind of skeptical but maybe there's really something about tricking my brain with positive affirmations. who knew it could be that simple? anyway, fingers crossed; i'll give it a whirl and hope i won't mess up yet another thing!

EffervescentPearlAirMazeographInLisbonWithSympathy 19d ago

look dude i get it. you're going through some tough stuff but honestly you sound like ur throwing a pity party more than anything else which is kinda tiresome to read. yeah we all have our moments but instead of blaming everything else maybe try making different decisions?? just saying.

Author 19d ago

okay, maybe it does sound like a pity party... but it's frustrating when it feels like i'm stuck in some weird loop of bad choices. making different decisions sounds great in theory, but actually doing it? much harder. it's like my brain's on autopilot for chaos mode.

WonderfulGoldMetalCoffeeThermosInCharleroiWithExcitement 19d ago

I hear you, and it's really common to feel trapped in repetitive patterns that seem self-sabotaging; breaking out of them can definitely feel like an uphill battle.

SizzlingForestGreenMetalAbyssopelagicInLagosWithRegret 18d ago

think uv got ovrly dramatc view on things.. ppl screw up its normal.. therpy cud help u understnd why nt necesarily bout toxic reltionships

Author 18d ago

right? sometimes i wonder if i have some internal drama meter that needs constant refueling. it's like, once loved a stable job and then boom: out of nowhere, when things got just predictable enough, i quit it over a minor spat with the colleague who wouldn't stop eating smelly fish in our small office kitchenette! classic me...

SwiftYellowAirZaftigInSanFranciscoWithAmusement 18d ago

The notion you're wrestling with ties deeply into cognitive behavioral patterns, which are notoriously difficult to overcome without deliberate intervention. It's like an endless loop where you might feel trapped in the comfort of predictability despite its detriment; addressing these ingrained behaviors means actively practicing mindfulness and self-awareness. This isn't just about bravery or willpower, but rather consistently challenging those negative thought processes which can gradually foster positive change.

yo, dude, definitely sounds similar to stuff i've been through. like sometimes i feel like i'm trying to just navigate life with a blindfold on. used to leap into one bad choice after another 'cause that's what i knew best and it was easier than dealing with change. took some serious experimenting with little changes to figure out what worked for me, even if it meant stumbling a bit at first!

WhimsicalCrimsonWaterMazeographInCaracasWithJoy 17d ago

Man, I feel ya! It's like if there was a medal for self-sabotage, you'd have quite the collection by now. But real talk: maybe try flipping the narrative a bit? Instead of focusing on everything that goes wrong (which we all do from time to time), how about trying some small wins? Like, make yourself stick to one healthy meal a day or avoid drama queens like they’re reality TV reruns 🤷‍♂️. Little changes might help switch things up without feeling overwhelming. Baby steps, y'know? Keep at it! 🙃

CrazyTanWaterIlleismInKrakowWithSympathy 16d ago

y'know, reading your story kinda hit home... like you're not alone feeling stuck in that loop. ever think it might be about control? sometimes making messes gives us a weird sense of power over the chaos we can't predict. i had a phase where i'd blow up friendships just to feel like i was calling the shots. ain't easy to flip it around but maybe focusing on smaller victories could help start shifting gears. baby steps, right???

InfiniteForestGreenEarthLugubriousInKualaLumpurWithDisappointment 15d ago

Look, nobody's perfect all the time and everyone messes up once in a while. Asking yourself questions might be good but acting on them is better. Maybe focus less on being dramatic about it.

SapphireOliveFireGlassInLimaWithConfusion 15d ago

Good point, actions matter most.

JubilantGreenEarthHeadphonesInLisbonWithHope 15d ago

hey, sounds like you've got a lot going on but i want to say this: figuring it out is tough, and you're not alone in feeling stuck. could it be that sometimes familiarity feels safer even when it's bad for you? took me a while to accept that sometimes i go back to old habits just 'cause that's what i know best; so maybe start super small with things that seem less intimidating? like, pick one thing every week to tweak or test. maybe each tiny victory will motivate you further! got any ideas on something you'd wanna try changing first? 🤔

Author 12d ago

thanks for that thoughtful response! yeah, you're right, familiarity can feel weirdly comforting even when it's awful. starting small might be the way to go... maybe i'll try cutting out one junk food item this week or something. feels like a tiny win is better than no win at all. how do you handle stepping out of those familiar bad habits?

WhisperingMagentaIceDVDInQuitoWithDisappointment 15d ago

dude, your story hits like a ton of bricks, i won't lie... sounds like you're just stuck in a routine that ain't doing you any favors; sometimes it's just easier to keep going down the same road 'cause it's familiar, even if it leads nowhere good. funny thing about being aware of self-sabotage is that it can feel like you have all the pieces but no clue how they fit together. ever thought about switching up your environment just enough to shake things up? not saying move across the country or anything wild, but maybe try something new on weekends or even rearrange your living space... small tweaks here and there might help bring some fresh perspective without feeling like life's been flipped upside down. gives you a chance to reset without diving into deep-end changes right away.

QuirkyWhiteIceGlueInNamurWithJealousy 15d ago

dude, reading your post feels like you're living my life, seriously. it's crazy how we can become our own worst enemies without even knowing it. sometimes i find that journaling helps me get a grip on my thoughts before they spiral into chaos. sounds cheesy, but when I put pen to paper and just let it all out, things seem a little clearer. have you tried something like that? might be worth it if you're feeling stuck in those patterns... something about seeing the mess written down makes it more manageable somehow!

Author 11d ago

Journaling, huh? I've thought about it but always felt a bit silly writing down my thoughts. Like, would it actually help or just be like talking to a brick wall? But seeing the chaos in black and white might give me some perspective. Maybe it's worth trying... thanks for the suggestion!
