how to stop being mean?
The story
ever had one of those days when you feel like you could just bite someone's head off? oh wait, that's me, like every single day lately 😅. snapping at colleagues over email errors or almost biting a friend's head off because they screwed up our lunch plans. yesterday, mike formatted a spreadsheet wrong (yeah, the horror!) and i totally exploded. looked around at the stunned faces and realized, dude, what is your problem? let's not even mention how i obliterated sarah for daring to change our coffee run from ten to eleven 🙄. if there were an award for petty behavior, i'd be top contender.
it's kinda ridiculous how work stress makes me turn into this irritable monster who can't even stand loud chewing in the break room...a place designed literally for breaks. it’s like after slogging through spreadsheets and corporate jargon all day, i'm supposed to have patience left over but nah, zero energy for that. i've read a bunch of books on anger management...well skimmed them anyway...but none have offered real strategies that work after a ten-hour shift where everything goes south halfway through.
so here we are: seeking advice from random strangers online because apparently my friends already think i'm too far gone 😂. "have you tried yoga?" they say as if knotting myself into positions named after animals will untangle years of professionalism-driven rage triggers and lack of personal time. "listen to calming music," someone suggested while we stood waiting two extra minutes in fast food hell thanks to a busted ice cream machine ruining our orders.
the reality is life feels like one endless cycle; deadlines pile up on top of each other faster than dishes in university dorm kitchens (trust me on this one). yet somehow i'm supposed to stay pleasant amidst quarterly meetings previewed by godawful powerpoints featuring charts nobody understands except dear old bob who's been here forever. seriously though guys 🥲 any tips or similar experiences out there? because right now facing another morning meeting without losing it seems improbable.

I totally get what you're going through! It's tough managing stress and emotions especially after long days at work where you're dealing with constant pressures and unrealistic deadlines. When I was working in finance, my irritability levels were sky-high post stressful quarters...I found exercising regularly helped channel some of that tension away.
Thanks for sharing your experience! it’s helpful knowing I'm not alone!
