women in their 30s
The story
so like, i'm in my 30s and the pressure!!!! ugh, society keeps pushing this idea that i should be married with kids by now or have some crazy successful career. like seriously?! who made these stupid rules!!! it's like everywhere i go people just assume that's the path everyone wants or should take. 🙄 well guess what, not for me!! but then there's always this nagging voice in my head making me doubt myself because of all these expectations. is it really so bad to take a different route? why does it feel like nothing i do is good enough unless it's ticking some damn societal box. you know what's even worse? seeing all those friends who are checking off those boxes and looking at them thinking "am i doing life wrong??" i've been hustling hard in my job but somehow it still doesn't feel like enough without a partner or kids in the picture. society just makes you question every decision you ever made! don't even get me started on family gatherings where aunt judy loves to remind me that time's ticking. 😩
sometimes i wonder if i'll ever shake off this feeling of inadequacy. it's exhausting constantly trying to justify my choices when people just look at you weird for not following their script. the older generation especially is stuck on their outdated blueprint for life and can't seem to understand that not everyone wants or can have the same things!!! oh god, why can't they mind their own business!!!!!! maybe one day they'll realize life's not one-size-fits-all but until then i'm stuck here fighting this invisible battle with myself over whether i'm living right or not. maybe someday i'll stop caring what anyone thinks but today isn't that day... give me strength!!

Points of view
but why do you care so much tho?
because it’s hard not to! we're kinda wired to care about what people think, right? but hey, if you've cracked the code on how to shut all that out, share your secret. honestly though, it's less about caring too much and more about constantly being reminded by others. just trying to keep my head above water!
it's totally understandable, especially when you see peers following the traditional path!!! like how often do we actually question these expectations?? it’s crazy how ingrained they are. have you ever thought about discussing your feelings with friends who might feel the same way? sometimes knowing you're not alone in this can be powerful; also, what strategies do you use to cope with those doubts when they creep in?? 😟
i've talked to a few friends, but it's like everyone has their own version of the same mess in different stages. i usually just vent like crazy or drown in some music when those doubts hit hard. maybe i should make more effort to talk it out because bottling it up isn't really working... 😵💫
I totally hear you! The pressure to conform to those "traditional life milestones" can be downright suffocating, huh?! Seriously, it's like there's this universal checklist that we're all supposed to blindly follow or something. 🙄 But honestly, I think you're onto something by recognizing that everyone has their own path. It's refreshing to see someone questioning these societal norms. Keep doing what feels right for you!! it takes guts to live authentically in a world that's constantly trying to fit us into a mold!!!
I totally get where you're coming from! My sister feels the same way sometimes and she's single in her late thirties too. She says it bothers her whenever people ask when she's going to settle down as if that's all there is to life. She told me she wishes they'd focus more on her accomplishments rather than her marital status.
Exactly! Why do people prioritize relationship status over everything else we've achieved? It's like our worth is tied to having a partner or kids. Ugh, so frustrating.
ever notice how the people who stick their noses in your life choices are often projecting their regrets or insecurities?
sounds like you're trapped in the societal pressure cooker, forever on high heat, huh?! it's like they don't get that everyone's clock ticks differently and not everyone wants to get on their hamster wheel of life. i swear, those outdated blueprints for life's "success" are such a joke! why do we have to copy-paste our lives according to some ancient script? what's wild is that when you do things your way, suddenly everyone becomes an expert on how you're living wrong; maybe one day they'll realize that different doesn't mean wrong but until then keep hustlin' your way!!
Honestly, it's wild how deeply ingrained these expectations are. But isn't it a bit liberating to know you're carving out your own path instead of blindly following the script? It might not always feel like it, but staying true to what you want can be a profound kind of success in its own right. Society’s outdated rules don’t define worth or happiness!! just gotta remind yourself of that now and then...
omg i feel you my mom always asking about grandkids im like chill already!! she just doesnt get it its annoying sometimes but in a funny way lol
Haha, I know right? It's like they have a script they're following and won't let it go. Sometimes I wonder if I'm just overthinking it all, but then I remember those awkward family dinners... it's such a mixed bag of emotions!
You make a valid point about societal pressure being overwhelming at times. However, I think some people find personal happiness through traditional paths which could be why they promote it heavily.
it's wild how much those societal expectations can mess with our heads, right?
i mean it's tough right? everyone's got different goals and timeliness but still society expects us all to fit into this narrow definition of success. idk man, it's weird.
totally feel where you're coming from with all those expectations... reminds me of my own story; like, everyone kept asking me when I was gonna snag that promotion and start climbing the career ladder, as if that's the only way to measure success, you know? it's wild how people try boxing us into their idea of "making it"!!! but hey... someone's gotta break that mold and do things differently, right? what's crucial is finding peace in your journey because chasing someone else's dream never ends well! ever tried tuning out those voices by diving headfirst into something you love? just remember: your path doesn't need any validation as long as it makes you happy!
sounds kinda whiny tbh.
Why let them dictate your happiness?
You're expressing genuine concerns many face; however, remember some traditions come from positive intentions even if they're outdated now.
