Stages of breakup
The story
You know how you think you've moved on from someone, and then life throws you a curveball? Well, that happened to me today. One minute I'm going about my day at this local coffee shop, just minding my own business, the usual... and bam! There they were - the ghost of relationships past, in living color with that same familiar face (you could say I was spooked). At first glance, I felt like everything inside of me stopped for a second. And as much as I want to play it cool and say that I was unbothered; deep down (okay maybe not even that deep) it shook me a bit.
I mean look, breakups are never easy, right? So many phases come with it... denial at first when you convince yourself it's just a 'break' not an 'up', though famously all lies 😂. Then comes anger where everything is their fault! Next thing you know you're bargaining with your feelings - 'well maybe if we did this or tried harder'. Then hello depression: those Netflix binge-listening-to-sad-songs vibe moments happen before acceptance decides to show up fashionably late to the party. But hey when faced with seeing said ex again unexpectedly... geez! All those steps feel mashed together.
It's funny cause lately I've been telling myself I truly am better off alone - as indefinite no drama feels pretty refreshing sometimes but man oh man did my subconscious drag me back through time today! Emotions? Check (!!) Memories flowing like Niagara Falls? Absolutely. Was tempted to write an Oscar speech about our once 'epic love story'. Yet here I sit spilling to internet strangers instead 😜 Read into personal growth however you will but y'all know what they say: Everything happens for some reason even if we're not let in on it straightaway.
