Why can't i move on from my ex after 2 years?
The story
Running into an ex after two years of total silence? Yeah, that happened at a mutual friend's wedding and it was... weird, to say the least. I thought I was totally over everything, but there we were, face-to-face in a crowd of people. Talk about a blast from the past. The quick chat we had stirred up all kinds of memories I thought I had neatly packed away.
I mean, who knew that seeing someone you used to be really close to could mess with your head like that? Apparently, there’s even a term for it. Something like "relational recall phenomenon" or whatever. Sounds fancy, right? I guess it’s true that even after all this time, some feelings hang around like an uninvited guest at a party. You think you've moved on, but your brain just loves to keep those emotional memories on speed dial.
So, I started questioning why it still feels like moving forward is such a hassle. I read somewhere that the bonds we form in relationships can be way more complicated than we think. Like, who knew that emotional recovery didn’t have a set timeline? I mean, I should be over this by now, right?
But I guess there's a silver lining here. Realizing all this stuff about my feelings could be a good thing. It might actually help me process everything and find some closure. I mean, mental health professionals say that acknowledging your emotions is key to moving on.
So, yeah, this unexpected encounter threw me for a loop. It reminded me that healing isn’t a straight line. I just have to keep looking inward and maybe, just maybe, I can find my way to a better place.
