These words are my own

The story

writing songs used to feel like this magical escape, a place where i could put everything down honestly. but now there's this nagging doubt every time i try to put pen to paper. is what i'm writing truly authentic, or am i just echoing something i've heard before? i've been listening to some of my favorite artists and wonder if i'm unintentionally imitating their style. they say every artist is influenced by others, right? it feels like a battle between wanting originality and fearing that my work isn't enough.

there's this quote from an interview with a famous songwriter: "every note has already been played". it's supposed to take the pressure off, acknowledging that we all borrow and build on what's come before. yet here i am, second-guessing every lyric i write as if trying to unlock some hidden part of myself that's completely unique. 🤔 sometimes i wish creating could be simple again: just me and my guitar late at night without the critical voice in my head analyzing every word. but this self-doubt shadow has found its way into the studio too, making the entire creative process feel more like painting myself into a corner than putting on a canvas of sound.
