Hyper kids
The story
Hey fellow teachers! So, I've got this wild classroom where the energy levels are through the roof, especially after lunch. There's this one kid who's a little genius when it comes to creativity, but they're using it to make paper planes that somehow always end up flying right when we need them to sit still and listen. I'm all for keeping things lively and encouraging their creativity, but these little distractions can seriously derail the lesson. 😅
Yesterday, while I was in the middle of explaining fractions (you know how tricky those can be), a plane soared across the room with petitions for recess written on it. The whole class erupted into giggles and suddenly everyone's attention was more on launching their own planes rather than focusing on math. "When in Rome..." they say; so maybe there's some way to channel this enthusiasm without losing control of my sanity.
I'm thinking about strategies like integrating movement breaks between topics or perhaps creating a reward system for responsible behavior during lessons. I want to harness their enthusiasm positively without squashing their spirit. Any tips or methods you've tried that worked wonders? I'm hopeful someone out here has creative solutions!

i feel you on this! it's always a battle between keeping them engaged and staying on track with lessons. sometimes i think about turning those disruptions into teaching moments though i'm not always sure how.
Turning disruptions into teaching moments is such a good idea, but executing it in the heat of the moment can be tricky! Maybe I could incorporate some of their creativity into lessons. Like having them design word problems using their planes or something similar? Not sure if it'll work but it's worth a shot!
