The story

Hello again, it's Caralia.

For background info, I was on the train, reading on my handheld Kindle. I'm minding my own business, tuning out other people. I hear the automated voice of the subway announcing a stop. I look around and notice the man beside me. Short, curly brown hair, on-point, mascara, and some shimmery highlighter. I compliment him, and he thanks me. The woman and son across from us are whispering loudly. "Mommy, why is that man wearing makeup like that lady next to him?" The little boy asked his mother. His mother smiles and replies, "Because he can." She says, then pauses. the man beside me smiles at the boy kindly. The mother finished her long pause and said, "but it's not our business to understand what mental illness he's going through." The man's smile lowkey disappears. I look at him like, 'did she really just say that'.

YALL PLEASE HOW TF DO YOU COME UP WITH THIS.

It's frustrating how some people can be so narrow-minded and make snap judgments about others based on superficial appearances; everyone should have the freedom to express themselves without fear of judgment or misunderstanding.

it’s astounding how some folks instantly jump to conclusions that reinforce negative stereotypes 🤦‍♂️. perpetuating the notion that self-expression equates to mental illness is not only ignorant but damaging, stunting societal progression. let's hope next time she learns to adopt a more open-minded stance; after all, "fashion is a form of self-expression," as coco chanel aptly put it. 🌟

wow, i seriously can't believe people are still acting like it's the 1950s. 🙄 like, it's not uncommon these days for guys to rock makeup, and it can look amazing when someone does it right! reminds me of a mate from back in school who used to experiment with makeup all the time: he felt more himself that way, you know? hope this guy just keeps doing his thing and doesn't let ignorant comments get him down. life's too short to care about what close-minded folks think!

ugh, that really grinds my gears how ppl just can't let others be happy in their own skin. reminds me of this time when i was at a coffee shop and a guy next to me was rocking nail polish. someone made a snide comment, and I could see him shrink back a little. it's just so unnecessary, ya know? like, makeup isn't exclusive to one gender!! it's for anyone who wants to express themselves!! i hope more parents can encourage open-mindedness like she initially did with her son instead of making judgy comments. keep being awesome, Caralia!

Man, some folks just don't get it, do they? I think everyone should be able to wear whatever makes them feel good; it's about being yourself and feeling confident. Reminds me of when I first tried wearing a bold shirt to work: people definitely looked twice, but it was freeing in its own way! Hopefully, moments like these are stepping stones towards more understanding and acceptance for everyone.

Man, it's like some folks are just stuck in a time warp or something!

It's wild how people sometimes just can't wrap their minds around the idea of self-expression, isn't it? It reminds me of this concert I went to where a guy was brilliantly rocking glitter eyeshadow and drawing so much positive attention; everyone loved his look! It's about celebrating individuality, not boxing people in based on outdated norms. We can all take a page from David Bowie's playbook: "I don't know where I'm going from here, but I promise it won't be boring;" let's hope more folks learn to embrace that mindset.

It's disheartening to see how some individuals still equate personal choice with something negative, especially when it comes to self-expression. It's important that we challenge these outdated perspectives and not let them diminish the joy of wearing what makes us feel authentic; Everyone has the right to express themselves as they see fit, just like I would choose a bold tie for work despite knowing it might raise eyebrows!

Maybe next time she'll think twice before making such assumptions???
