The story

i recently came across this so-called 'life mantra' that was supposed to like change my life or whatever. the phrase goes, 'live in the present moment and forget about everything else.' sounds simple right? well let me tell you, it isn't. this phrase completely turned my whole mindset upside down because i am someone who thrives on planning ahead and making sure everything is organized. now i'm supposed to just forget all of that? give me a break.

the idea of living in the present moment honestly confuses the hell out of me. how can anyone just live without considering their future? i mean, are we not supposed to think about our goals or what we want to achieve? the society always tells us to be prepared for anything and now suddenly there's this mantra that's suggesting otherwise. it feels contradictory and unrealistic if you ask me. not trying to be rude here but these mantras seem more like a distraction than a solution.

it became even more frustrating when i tried integrating it into my daily routine. i found myself constantly battling with my own thoughts, because every time i tried focusing on the present, there was always this nagging feeling at the back of my mind reminding me that tomorrow exists too; and it's not like responsibilities magically disappear because you're trying to follow some trendy advice right?

everyone seems to rave about how liberating it is just focusing on today, yet none talk about how impossible that actually is in practice especially in today's fast-paced world where everything demands immediate attention. look i'm all for finding new ways to improve oneself but i have my reservations when it comes down putting blind faith into something that seems so disconnected from reality. maybe it's just me who feels overwhelmed by this but whatever happened sticking with what works?
