The story

i swear it happened again! i'm sitting in this super important meeting. everyone's talking. suddenly i feel detached, like i'm floating or something. it's crazy how the world fades out, you know? can't focus on a damn thing and everything goes fuzzy, ugh!!! makes me nervous that my colleagues are gonna notice or think i'm slacking off; friggin hate this feeling.

just yesterday, i was trying to piece together what went down in our project review. my boss is staring with that 'are you even here' look. hell no i'm not there!!! everyone else just nodding along while my brain's elsewhere... so embarrassing!! tried to stay calm but end up missing key points.

then there's this one part where i just froze?? lost track mid-sentence, like poof...gone! it's like some magic trick that's more life-ruining than amusing. 😅 bet someone thought 'wow what an idiot', sorry but bpd really messes with your head!

gotta admit, scares me thinking job's at risk if they catch on. i mean, how do you own up to dissociating mid-task without sounding nuts? workdays shouldn't involve mental gymnastics!! tired of pretending things are fine when half the time i'm checked out. everyone talks coping skills as if they're easy fixes... wish it were that simple.

Just snap out of it.

BouncingOrangeLightningKnapsackInCopenhagenWithFear 20d ago

If only it were that easy....

Author 20d ago

Oh great, why didn't I think of that? Just snap out of it, easy peasy. Wish my brain would listen to you!

MightyBlackFireSnollygosterInCaracasWithJealousy 19d ago

its ovrated just focus urself

Author 19d ago

it's not that simple, wish it was. focusing when your brain's in another dimension feels impossible. gotta find a better way to cope with this...

man, i feel you; it's so damn frustrating when your mind just decides to take a hike like that. 😤 life's like a constant juggling act with BPD. it’s wild how you're expected to play it cool while wrestling an invisible beast in your head. honestly, if they don't get it, that's on them for not understanding mental health issues better. hang tight; things do get more manageable with time and support.

man, dissociating in the middle of a meeting sounds like a real nightmare!

MightySapphireWoodStrainerInRomeWithPride 17d ago

Damn, that sounds rough. It's like you're stuck in a loop of zoning out when you really need to be present; and people who haven't gone through it just don't get how frustrating it is. I can't believe some people think it's as simple as "just paying attention"... like, if only! Personally, I've found grounding techniques help a bit here and there... though it's not a magic bullet. Maybe consider discussing this with someone at work? They might be more understanding than you expect (I know, wishful thinking).

Sounds like you're really stuck in a tough spot with this dissociation thing. 😐 I've been there too, where your brain just checks out during key moments and you feel so exposed; especially when everyone else seems to have it all together. It's a trip how our bodies just respond like that without warning, almost like it's own defense mechanism kicking in. Honestly, people often don't grasp how mentally draining these situations are unless they've been through it themselves. Maybe try some grounding techniques next time? They help me now and then... though of course, there's no one-size-fits-all solution.

Your concerns are valid and it's difficult to manage dissociation during critical moments like meetings. However, perhaps seeking professional guidance could provide solutions.

Seeking help made a huge difference for me!

gotta say, i think you're being too hard on yourself. everyone zones out here and there, even in important meetings. it's not like you’re the only one who’s ever lost track of a conversation. maybe everyone's so focused on mentally checking their own work that they don't notice what you've got going on. sure, bpd can make it harder but just keep doing your best... most folks won't even realize it!

SurrealWhiteWoodSpongeInKyotoWithLove 16d ago

Sounds like you're stuck in a perpetual cycle of dissociation when you least expect it. I can't even imagine how unsettling that must be, especially with the pressure to keep up appearances at work. It's wild how society tends to downplay mental health intricacies, suggesting oversimplified "solutions" rather than understanding the real struggle involved. I've been there, feeling like my brain's on pause while everyone else is on fast forward; it's maddeningly isolating. Maybe experimenting with different techniques or breaking tasks into smaller chunks could offer some relief? Not a cure-all by any means, but might lessen the intensity just a little.

Author 13d ago

breaking tasks into smaller chunks sounds good in theory, but it's not like my brain waits for convenient moments to check out. pressures on all sides are tough, you know? people pushing quick fixes just don’t get it: like hey, solved! but no. feels impossible when the fog hits.
