Can't get a new job - even internally.
The story
I'm just annoyed and venting.
Last summer my job laid off everyone but me. Since then my role has changed to dead end grunt work. I've been applying to jobs since a few weeks before the layoffs (i saw it coming and thought I'd be impacted) and nothing. I've had 2 interviews in all this time and both were busts.
My company is hiring for a role I'm qualified for and applied for 2 weeks ago. They haven't said anything. Just "thanks for applying! We'll reach out". Today i heard a higher up talking about it saying someone else had applied and they were excited, but didn't want to rush finding a candidate. So...am I not even being considered? Y'all can't give me a pity interview? I literally work here.
I'm tired of corporate acting like these jobs are rocket science. Sure some like coding or design require skills - but communications? Marketing? HR? We're all just bullshitting. And even in my bullshitting I'm more than qualified. The least they could do is reject me.
The job market has been impossible since I graduated (2020). Got laid off the last two jobs and am trapped at this one. Still can't afford my own apartment. Still not "mid level" apperantly after 5 years. I just want to focus on my business instead of begging corporate to give me some chump change, but it's a long road to that being livable. I just want a 1br and a savings account. Is that too much to ask???

You might be overthinking this. Sometimes companies just have their own favorites and don't consider internal candidates seriously. It's a crappy situation but try not to take it too personally.

hey, that sucks big time!!! it’s such a bummer when you're grinding hard and no one seems to notice. i totally feel you on the whole corporate BS... it's wild how difficult they make things for stuff that's not exactly brain surgery, right? sounds like you've got a really solid game plan though with your business aspirations, which is super cool! keep hustling, man - i bet you'll get there sooner than you think. wouldn't that be rad???
ugh, that's rough buddy. the feeling of just being stuck kinda sucks, you know? your frustrations are legit too! it’s crazy how we’re out here hustling and still not getting anywhere fast. this whole thing where jobs make us jump through hoops for even basic positions is ridiculous; like we're trained animals or something... hang in there though, things do tend to turn around when least expected. lots of respect for trying to get your business rolling on top of everything. keep pushing and who knows what’s right round the corner 🙌!

is there anyway u can talk 2 ur manager or someone higher-up... like maybe they dont even realize ur interested? communication can be so weird these days!!!
I feel you, it's maddening how companies often overlook internal talent for no apparent reason; I mean, you're already there, and they can't see the value right in front of them?
man, this hits home for sure. a buddy of mine was in almost the exact situation last year: got stuck doing the grunt work while applying left and right. what's wild is he finally got something after months when an old contact reached out randomly. sounds cliché, but those connections can pop up unexpected. sucks to feel like you're just treading water, but your business on the side could be what lights things up! keep at it, dude... things have a weird way of coming together when you least expect them.

I wonder if starting your own business could actually be a viable path. It seems daunting, especially without a stable income, but it might lead somewhere better eventually. Though I'm not sure how to make that transition smoothly either.
i feel u about the job market omg it's been brutal tbh since 2020 i've heard from so many ppl in the same spot as us!! but remember that sometimes there's a reason things happen, not 2 sound all woo woo tho cause yeah, corporate sucks big time and im scared we're going back to some terrible work norm nobody wants anymore- still, there are moments when things weirdly fall into place if we keep pushing through awkward phases. i get how corporate feelz like bs sometimes trust me like marketing hr is just guessing most of the time ha!
