Clingy person
The story
so I just overheard some colleagues chatting in the break room about me, and they actually used the word 'clingy.' this threw me off because I've always considered myself friendly, not clingy. i mean, isn't being accessible and open part of nurturing good work relationships? it's strange how perspectives differ so much and honestly, it's messing with my self-esteem a bit.
at work, we often engage in collaborative environments where being approachable is essential. i thought I was doing it right by maintaining frequent communication and checking up on team members. but apparently, that's not how everyone sees it. suddenly, 'friendly' translates into 'clingy,' which now makes me second-guess every interaction 😕
I'm trying to remind myself that these are just opinions and may not reflect a universal truth. perhaps they're referencing the concept of 'psychological safety,' the balance between being supportive yet giving space to others. it's tough though... feeling like any move might be interpreted wrongly.
I've always been polite and professional while engaging with colleagues. maybe my understanding of boundaries needs an update? some books or references talk about emotional intelligence at work... maybe that's what I'm missing?
it's ironic because I value personal growth and feedback as tools for improvement. yet when unsolicited comments hit you like this one did, it makes me doubt intentionality behind every gesture 😞 I'm honestly confused about how to proceed without overanalyzing everything.

I'm not even sure how you can be clingy towards coworkers (as opposed to a friend, parent, or partner). That relationship ceases to exist at 5pm.
It's okay OP. Work sucks and people hate it. It can make them take it out in weird places. Keep being nice! There's nothing wrong with that even if there's some gossips around. If you reach out to people outside of work, carry on if they reach out too/it's reciprocal. Anyone who has a genuine issue can tell you
