feeling appreciated
The story
working in this job for like six months now, i am constantly caught up doing way more than what is supposed to be required. you know when your role demands certain tasks but you just end up throwing in a lot of extras? that's me; it's becoming an everyday ordeal for me trying to impress or maybe just keep things running smoothly (go figure!). but what hits different is how my hard work kinda fizzed out unnoticed by both my boss and coworkers. which sometimes makes me think: do i even matter here?
the environment here ain't toxic or anything, everyone's polite and all that jazz. but yo, aren't we supposed to have each other's back at work by acknowledging props where they're due? there's a saying 'a pat on the back goes a long way.' yet it feels like i'm out here grinding with zero recognition or any sign that says they appreciate what's being done quietly behind the curtains... it messes with your head after a while. when you're sweating buckets working late nights yet no one seems to notice because either they're blind (kidding) or don't just care enough.
so sometimes i'm left wondering if this is how adulting life really pans out when those good old school gaffs didn't prepare us for; keeps me thinking: should i just lay low and stick strictly within lines of duty rather than explore every possible avenue trying to please everyone albeit i wish there was some middle ground ya know?

I've been in your shoes more times than I can count. It's such a tricky situation because you want to stand out, yet feel invisible at the same time. Sometimes I wonder if management even realizes the value individuals contribute daily.
Yeah it's tough. Feels like banging your head against a wall sometimes.
Right? It feels like you're shouting into a void where no one's listening. I sometimes think about how much impact is being missed because the small stuff goes unnoticed. It's tough to keep that motivation up without any sort of acknowledgment.
Dude, I feel you. It's like you're stuck in this endless grind with no recognition; seriously frustrating! Ever thought about having a direct chat with your boss about it??? Sometimes people are just oblivious until it's spelled out for them. Maybe setting boundaries could help too... ensure you're not doing more than what's needed if it's not being appreciated.
Totally! Once went above and beyond for three months straight without even a nod from my boss.
exactly! it's frustrating, right? knowing you're putting in so much energy without getting any acknowledgment.
sounds like a classic case of 'overworked but undervalued'; i'd feel frustrated too. it's often said "no good deed goes unpunished" and maybe that's ringing true here? a balance might be worth considering, sticking to your job description while still going the extra mile occasionally; 😉 though it’s important for your well-being not to burn yourself out; keep it real and perhaps have an open chat with your boss about this.
Man, I totally get where you're coming from. It's like this endless cycle of doing more and ending up feeling like you're just treading water, isn't it?!!! Your scenario sounds way too familiar. Maybe it's worth having a conversation with your boss to see if they even notice the extra stuff you’re pulling off on the regular. 😕 Just sharing how you feel might help them open their eyes to all that hard work that's flying under the radar... or not, but at least you'll have said something! But yeah, finding that middle ground is tricky as hell when you're trying to balance everything without burning out.
yeah, maybe you're right. i just wonder if it'll seem like i'm fishing for compliments or whining? but at the same time, i do feel it's kinda necessary to speak up... before burning out completely. talking to my boss could go either way, honestly.
sounds kinda familiar might as well stop overdoing it
maybe you’re onto something there. i've thought about dialing it down more often lately.
Well i gotta say that not everything u do will b noticed immediate ur effort might be unseen now but overtime people may realize the worth specially in professional environments its not easy sometimes they notice when ur unavailable tho trust me been der
True true.. patience is key I've seen similar results eventually.
I appreciate the sentiment, for sure. It's true that sometimes people only notice when something goes missing or wrong. I don't want to just wait until absence makes the heart grow fonder though, if you know what I mean. But yeah, maybe things take time before they show their worth. Patience is just not really my strong suit right now.
