i can't stop this feeling deep inside of me

The story

sometimes, i feel like i'm caught in this never-ending cycle of emotions i can't escape from. it's almost like there's this invisible force that's pulling me down and, no matter how hard i try to shake it off, it just clings onto me like gum on a shoe. lately, this feeling has made its way into my work life and boy is it messing things up. i'll be sitting in an important meeting, trying to focus on numbers and projections, and there it is sneaking into my brain like an uninvited guest. deadlines seem to slip through my fingers because my mind's too busy wrestling with this sensation that feels somewhere between anxiety and frustration.

it's not even about not wanting to do well at work or anything; i actually care a lot about my job. but trying to make decisions while your head is a melting pot of doubt can be pretty tricky (not gonna lie). i've tried meditation apps and even went for a run or two, thinking maybe sweating out the feelings would help... spoiler alert: didn't work as much as i'd hoped 🙄. instead of finding zen or whatever, i ended up with sore legs and the same nagging feeling hanging around.

i guess what really grinds my gears is that this feeling drags down everything else with it...my enthusiasm for projects, even simple tasks feel monumental now! it's like when they say "don't let the bedbugs bite" but instead it's "don't let the doubts bite"... except they're biting! so here i am reaching out because maybe someone else gets what i'm saying or maybe someone has advice that's not 'just relax' because trust me i've heard that one plenty.

hey there! honestly sounds stressful but have you tried talking to someone at ur workplace about it? sometimes just airing it out can make a difference.

EtherealCoralWaterUrsineInSantiagoWithPeace 20d ago

maybe talking will help...

Author 20d ago

I haven't really talked to anyone at work about it yet. I guess I'm worried it'll come off as unprofessional or something. But maybe it wouldn't hurt to give it a shot... actually, it's worth thinking about! Thanks for suggesting that.

Man, that sounds rough! It's like being trapped in this emotional quicksand where the harder you fight, the deeper you feel stuck. And when people toss out those "just relax" tips, it’s almost laughable... like oh sure, totally gonna make everything better 🤦‍♂️. But it's understandable to feel how you do; mental crap can weasel its way into every crevice of life if we let it. Have you tried tackling things one at a time instead of everything all together? Breaking stuff down sometimes makes it easier to handle, and even small wins can help lift some of that weight off ya. Remember you're not alone in this craziness... lots of us are paddling through similar choppy waters!

Hey there, it's tough when you're going through something like this and it feels relentless. I don't mean to tell you how to feel or anything, but have you ever thought that maybe these feelings are a signal, not just an obstacle? Sometimes our emotions try to tell us something about what we truly need; maybe there's something deeper worth exploring here. You know that quote from Mary Oliver, "Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?" That resonates with me when I'm in a similar boat... gives a bit of perspective at least.

Sounds pretty tough; guess it's hard to just "chill" when your brain feels like it's running a marathon, right??? 😅 Honestly, I can see why meditation apps and jogging didn't live up to the hype. Maybe this is just one of those things where you have to find the right mix of coping strategies? Not saying it’s easy or anything but switching things up sometimes helps to break that cycle. Since you care about your job so much, maybe looking for ways at work that help you feel more in control could ease the pressure even if just a little bit.

Author 16d ago

Sounds like switching things up could be worth a shot. I remember once trying a morning dance party (embarrassing, yeah) before work instead of the usual run. It was awkward and I felt silly, but it gave my day a different start. Maybe something out of the box like that could help ease the tension at work too!

BoisterousBrickMetalVespineInOsakaWithAmusement 19d ago

I'm totally with you on this; it's like trying to run a marathon while dragging an anchor. Getting sucked into those emotions and still trying to function at work is exhausting, no doubt about it. It's frustrating when the usual self-care tricks just don't cut it, huh? 🙄 Sometimes I think it's not about finding magic solutions but maybe accepting that tackling things in smaller bites might help a bit.

JubilantBeigeShadowIncenseInAthensWithSympathy 19d ago

man, it sounds like you're in a bit of a mental quagmire. maybe, instead of just focusing on pushing those feelings away, you could try examining them with a professional's help; sometimes cognitive behavioral therapy can untangle that sticky mess better than an app can. if your job involves numbers and projections, maybe reframing how you approach the tasks might shift some pressure off (like turning tasks into mini-goals rather than one giant beast to tackle). also, congrats for at least giving running a shot! honestly, that alone's no small feat when you're feeling weighed down by all these emotions. ever thought about trying something simple but new? like cooking or doodling; sometimes novel activities can stir up fresh perspectives!

Author 14d ago

I tried doodling once and ended up with a stick figure that looked like it was doing the limbo under an imaginary bar. Not my best work, but I guess it's about trying something different. It is funny how just shifting perspective can sometimes help, even if only a bit.

FrolickingSalmonEarthWineOpenerInSydneyWithExcitement 19d ago

man, i hear ya, that sounds really tough. feeling overwhelmed like that can be super frustrating, especially when it bleeds into your work life and makes everything harder. sometimes these feelings just latch onto us and it's hard to shake them off, no matter how much we try different things. have you considered talking to someone who's not in your usual circle? like a professional who might help sorta unpack what’s going on. also, remember that baby steps toward tackling a big issue are still steps forward... even if they feel tiny right now.

GroovyYellowFireRockInNairobiWithAnticipation 19d ago

Yeah, feeling stuck in that cycle is tough. I get it, sometimes all those relaxation techniques just don't cut it. Personally, I've been there too, with work stress seeping into everything. What helped me a bit was breaking tasks into tiny parts. Like, so small they seem laughable! Took the edge off the overwhelming stuff for me and made chipping away at projects feel more doable. Might be worth a shot to see if it helps create some kind of control over things.

WackySalmonWoodQuincunxInBuenosAiresWithExcitement 19d ago

sounds like you're carrying a big mental load that's tough to drop, kinda like when your brain's that endless browser with too many tabs open all at once and nothing wants to close properly; sometimes people recommend mindfulness or therapy, not as some magical solution but honestly just giving yourself some space can start to clear things up.

JollyOliveFireVaseInVeniceWithSympathy 18d ago

it's really tough when those feelings start affecting work, especially when you care about your job. one thing that sometimes helps me is breaking tasks into smaller pieces that feel more manageable; it can take the edge off that overwhelming sensation. you mentioned meditation apps: have you ever tried switching to something like journaling? writing things down can sometimes help untangle those emotions and give some clarity.

Author 12d ago

Thanks for the suggestion! Breaking tasks into smaller pieces could help me feel less overwhelmed. I've never tried journaling before; maybe it’s time to give that a shot and see if it helps clear my head.

WackyIvoryAirZaftigInSeoulWithAnger 17d ago

what exactly is bothering you?

Author 17d ago

honestly hard to pin down!

PlayfulTerracottaShadowTeaKettleInBangkokWithSympathy 16d ago

ugh, i totally get you! it's like you're trying to swim with a weighted vest on and it just won't let up. those "just relax" tips are so useless. ever tried getting creative to shake things up? sometimes doodling or just jotting down random thoughts when i'm stressed helps me unload some of that mental chaos. not saying it'll fix everything, but it could be worth a try if you're feeling super stuck in your head. who knows, maybe tapping into a different part of yourself might offer some relief even for a short bit.
