The story

Lately, I’ve found myself staring at my own face way more than I should.... Specifically, I can’t help but focus on my eyes. I’m starting to worry that they give off this vibe of emotional coldness or something. It’s probably just me overthinking, but it makes me wonder if others think I’m some kind of psychopath because of it.

This whole self-reflection thing has really messed with my interactions. I can’t have a normal conversation without stressing over how my expressions are being read. I want to be better at connecting with people, but these insecurities just keep creeping in and ruining the flow of conversation.

It’s not just about how I see myself. It feels like there’s a disconnect between how I perceive my emotions and how others might interpret them. Even if people mean well, it makes me anxious about how I come across. This has definitely taken a toll on my relationships.

I’ve read some stuff by psychologists who talk about changing your thought patterns to make things better. It reminds me of that quote by Marcus Aurelius about happiness depending on the quality of your thoughts. So here I am, trying to work on my communication skills while battling this weird mismatch between what I feel and what I seem to show. It’s frustrating, but I’m holding on to some hope.
